Great Places to Cycle:
County of Brant
Defined in part by the rolling hills and rich agricultural land of the Grand River Valley, the largest watershed in southern Ontario, the County of Brant is a hidden gem of cycling experiences. With an extensive interconnected trail network and beautiful rural routes; cycling in the area is ideal for both advanced and beginner riders.
Pick up the region's Outdoor Adventure Map that includes eight mapped routes along quieter rural roads. Drawing experienced riders out across the County and through scenic natural landscapes and farmlands; the routes connect inviting towns and villages along the way.

Much of the region's rail heritage has been converted into  stunning rail trails that traverse the beautiful shoreline of the Grand River and connect to surrounding communities such as Hamilton, Port Dover and Cambridge. With nearly 70 kilometers of trails in the city of Brantford alone, long-distance and overnight cycling holidays are second-to-none.

Cycling In Ontario - Ride Style Guide
for Experienced Cyclists
The 2015 Cycling In Ontario / Le vélo en Ontario Guide features a  "Ride Style Guide" to help readers select suitable rides based on their cycling abilities. Here's a selection of some of those road routes with longer distances suitable for multi-day touring or 100km day rides.

Park and ride out of Bonnechere Caves in the Ottawa Valley and challenge yourself on the 100km Foymount Hill climb up to what was once Ontario's highest 'settlement', a Cold War-era radar station! For more information visit OttawaValley.Travel/cycle.

There are few places where a classic century ride (100 miles/156 km) is as easy to clip in and ride out on as Oxford County (or as beautiful for that matter). For more information visit RideOxford.ca.

Grey County has perfect terrain for training with escarpment climbs and long stretches of paved roads. With the Subaru Centurion Blue Mountain just over a month away, ride past 25, 50 and 100 mile routes from the annual event that have been mapped and are available in the Grey County Cycling Routes Map.

Pick up or download the Durham Cycle Tours or Clarington Cycling Map and discover the superb long-distance road riding in Clarington (Durham Region) with its smooth backcountry roads and challenging hill climbs with views over the Oak Ridges Moraine.

Featured Event: Toronto Bicycle Music Festival

On September 13th, join the 5th annual Toronto Bicycle Music Festival for three free outdoor pedal-powered concerts taking place in and between Toronto's community parks and streets.

These three concerts will be strung together by group rides that are safe, fun, and accompanied by musicians playing from a bike-trailer stage! Check out this video of past festivals.

Live in the GTA and want to leave your car at home? Visit Toronto by train and bring your bike aboard GO Trains (weekends and off-peak hours)!

Bike Maintenance
 Station Installed at Fort Henry
Already a certified bicycle friendly tourist attraction, visiting Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada just got a little bit more convenient for cyclists.

Steam Whistle Brewing recently installed a Bike Repair Station outside the event centre at Fort Henry in Kingston. The station includes a bike rack, a 10-tool stand for light repairs and a tire pump.

Read the brewery's recent blog about their entire Bike Repair Station Network that features 17 stations in Ontario.
The Dog Days of Summer are Over!

We've made it through the dog days of summer. With warm late summer evenings and the region's harvest fast approaching, this time of the year is one of our favourites for riding! So keep trying to squeeze in as many days on two wheels as possible.

Visit OntarioByBike.ca for information on cycling in destinations throughout Ontario, links to downloadable maps and other resources and, of course, over 1,000 certified bicycle friendly business listings!

Remember to share pictures of your rides this season through email, Facebook, Twitter or other platforms.
