One on One Consultations with subject specialists save you time and help your students submit stronger work.

By Julie Elliott

Dr. Cathy Borshuk, Associate Professor of Psychology, has found that having her senior capstone students work closely with Linda Fisher, subject librarian for psychology, has had a major impact on their success.

"I have seen a real improvement in the quality of research papers," she said.

Dr. Borshuk has found that encouraging her students to schedule research consultations has benefited all involved, including herself.

"This has been really helpful for my students, and also it helps take a bit of the load off me. I don't have the time to spend with each student in my office sitting there for one an hour or two hours helping them. It is really great that we have a professional who specializes in this area who is willing to do that with our students."

Fisher agrees.

"It is a win-win for everybody," she said. It allows the students to ask their questions to someone other than the faculty member, it saves the faculty member time, and it also allows the students to really deeply explore [some of] our databases."

And research consultations are not just for students.

"Faculty members can schedule research consultations as well," said Fisher.
