#LGBTcovered: LGBT-Friendly Enrollment Assistance
Open Enrollment is happening now; it's you're chance to sign up for health coverage! Our communities have been denied health care for too long, it's time to make sure we get the care we deserve. California residents can now enroll in affordable, quality health coverage plans through the state's new insurance marketplace - Covered California.
Covered California selected five LGBT organizations to specialize in providing free enrollment assistance to LGBT communities throughout California. These organizations can answer all your questions about enrolling in Medi-Cal or a Covered California health plan, and have enrollment events, drop-in hours, and appointments available. They can even enroll people over the phone! See a calendar of events providing LGBT-knowledgeable enrollment assistance here. Please include this information in your e-blasts, and share information about #LGBTcovered on Facebook, Twitter, and any other social media platforms your organization uses.

Office of Health Equity Advisory Committee Meeting
The Office of Health Equity provides a key leadership role to reduce health and mental health disparities in vulnerable communities. A priority of the office is to build cross-sectoral partnerships and inform its work through advisory committee and stakeholder meetings. The office consults with community-based organizations and local governmental agencies to ensure that community perspectives and input are included in policies, strategic plans, recommendations, and implementation activities.

Funding Opportunity for Local Health Departments
Natl. Assn. of County and City Health Offices has released a competitive funding opportunity for Health in All Policies (HiAP) led by local health departments. The aim of this project is to encourage sustainable strategies for embedding health considerations into governmental structures and processes that will result in improved community health.
NACCHO will award 2 to 3 local health departments up to $10,000 each to engage in activities that will lead to the implementation of a HiAP approach or significant progress in implementing a HiAP approach. The projects should be focused on an environmental health-related topic during the project period of January 2015 to August 2015.

Public Comment Period: Draft Strategic Plan to Reduce Mental Health Disparities
The Strategic Plan to Reduce Mental Health Disparities was drafted seven organizations as a part of the California Reducing Disparities Project (CRDP), and funded by the Mental Health Services Act (Proposition 63). The CRDP is a groundbreaking prevention and early intervention effort to reduce mental health disparities in underserved populations. This Strategic Plan represents the voice of African American, Asian and Pacific Islander, Latino, Native American, and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) communities in California, as captured by five Strategic Planning Workgroups.
The strategic plan aims to provide community-driven strategies to reduce disparities in racial, ethnic, and LGBTQ communities by:
- Identifying culturally and linguistically appropriate strategies to improve access, services, and outcomes for racial, ethnic, and LGBTQ populations, and
- Providing recommendations to the state for funding and evaluating culturally-rooted, community-defined promising practices over a four-year pilot program.
There will be a 30 day public comment period in early 2015, including 3 community forums and the opportunity to provide feedback on the plan via email, phone, and mail. This early release is an opportunity for you to review the strategic plan and develop comments and suggestions. We also encourage you to share the draft plan with your community partners and others who might be interested in providing comments.
