We are TROJAN GOLD!!

On the third Thursday of every month, CES students are encouraged to wear their Trojan Gold T-shirts, awarded to them for exhibiting behavior worthy of the Gold Standard. Principal Karen Wild notes all 1,600-plus CES students have the opportunity to earn their own T-shirts through the school's PBIS (Positive Behaviorial Interventions and Supports) program. Many thanks to our business partners for their financial support that allows us to continue this positive program!

Families encouraged
to join the CES PTVO

The Parent-Teacher Volunteer Organization at Carrollton Elementary School plays a vital role as the fund-raising arm of the school. The organization depends on volunteers to make it a success. One hundred percent of all funds raised by PTVO is given back to CES.

Some of PTVO's fund-raising initiatives include: Innisbrook, Jingle Bell Jog, Yearbook, Butter Braids Pastry and Spirit Nights.

Another source of income is paid PTVO memberships. Many membership levels of support are available to allow all families the opportunity to join. They are:
$5 Trojan Bronze
$10 Trojan Silver
$25 Trojan Gold
$50 Trojan Platinum
$100 Trojan Diamond

The money earned by PTVO is used in many different areas. PTVO currently funds a copy room position so teachers are able to stay in classrooms and not be burdened with the time it takes to make copies. Some of the larger projects funded by PTVO in the past year included a new sound system in the gym, upgrades to the intercom system in the front of the school, replacement of a playground slide, and grant support for the city's Greenbelt project that affects the school.

Technology grants to boost student learning districtwide
Carrollton City Schools has announced the system has earned a $270,000 technology grant to be used for infrastructure hardware. In addition, the district, though a charter system grant, has purchased Chromebooks for all teachers. Both initiatives are intentionally focused to unlock every tool possible to customize student learning.  Learn more.

Texting program designed
to encourage young literacy
In partnership with the Get Georgia Reading Campaign, CES is excited to share with you a new, FREE resource - GAREADY4K text message program for parents of 4 and 5-year-olds. Families can opt-in to receive about three messages weekly about everyday activities they can do with their children.

A 2014 study led by researchers at Stanford University found that Ready4K! had a positive effect on the levels to which parents engaged in home literacy activities with their children. The texting program also led to increased involvement with their child's school.

Now, Ready4K! is coming to Georgia for parents of 4 and 5-year-old children - sign up now by texting gaready4k to 313131. Again, this is a free, opt-in texting service. Keep in mind Individuals' mobile carrier text rates may apply.
'Cape Day' showcases real heroes and CHOA
"Cape Day," a CES fund-raising event for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, was a huge success and raised not only money, but also awareness of children with health challenges requiring specialized treatment. Our CHS media interns created this highlight video that was published on Facebook last week. Click the picture link to the video. Enjoy!
