In the last newsletter we gave a brief introduction to the Agnew/McAllister Duo and a listing of their concert program for this Saturday. In this newsletter I thought I'd share how we found out about them.

We first became aware of the duo three years ago in an intimate, short concert in San Francisco during a tour they were doing at the time ... unforgettable night! They played some classics, some really lyrical modern pieces and some smokin' hot South American numbers by Piazzolla and others ... it was great! One of Matthew's solos was a very beautiful, lyrical Scottish-based piece - "Farewell to Stromness" that floored me! It was so great it sent me on a quest and within a week I had found and bought the score and was playing it within a couple of months at an SBGS Open Mic. Last year we heard the Duo was planning another swing through the States and we knew we had to bring them to the Trianon for our SBGS audience. The Concert is on Saturday at 7:30pm at Le Petit Trianon.

Get your tickets to this great concert at the SBGS website where you can also find links to sample videos of the other artists in our season. To lock in great seats for the entire season consider purchasing Season Tickets, still available.

The Duo will also hold Master Classes on Sunday from 11am to 1pm at Kamamoto Strings (609 N. 4th Street, San Jose). Four students will have half-hour, each, to play a composition and work through it with Matthew and Aisling. We invite you to join this intimate setting where you can get great insights into the music. The Audit fee is $5 at the door.

As those that enjoyed the phenomenal concerts of our 2014-15 season can attest, SBGS spares no effort or expense to bring in our time's greatest guitarists for our concerts in the South Bay. It is a major financial exercise to be able to accomplish it and keep our budget in balance. Starting last season our task became that much harder as our favorite theater - the Trianon - raised its venue costs. We want to ask all guitar lovers and friends to consider a donation or membership to help the Society continue to present great artists and promote guitar education and performance opportunities for the next generation of guitarists in the South Bay.
