This practical, evidence-based workshop brings together a team of experienced clinicians to explore and discuss the foundations of trauma and resilience. Issues of attachment, mentalizing, dissociation affect regulation, and addictions form the back drop to this workshop, with an emphasis on the middle stage of trauma treatment. Using Prolonged Exposure and Narrative Exposure Therapy techniques attendees will learn how to help a client desensitize their unresolved traumatic memories and integrate them into an autobiographical narrative. The course will also address the treatment of trauma within couples and the treatment of trauma for children and refugees. Live demonstration interviews with simulated patients by faculty and participants and an expressive writing component for attendees will bring the theoretical material to life and illustrate applied principles for an office-based practice.
