Student and Postdoc Funding
Applications for student and postdoc support for FY 2014-2015 are due April 23. The Daugherty Water for Food Institute will award up to $310,000 in student support. Both DWFI Faculty Fellows and Faculty Affiliates are eligible to apply for undergraduate scholar and graduate research assistantship support.

Heuermann Lecture
The final Heuermann Lecture of the 2013-2014 season will be held on Tuesday, April 22nd at 3 p.m. at the East Campus Union. Entitled "The Role of Water and Food Security in Early Childhood Survival and Development: A Global Perspective," the lecture will feature a conversation with Dr. Chris Elias, president of the Global Development Program, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Dr. Joan Lombardi, former deputy assistant secretary and inter-departmental liaison for early childhood education, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and Dr. Nurper Ulkuer, former head, Early Childhood Development Unit, and senior adviser for early childhood development, UNICEF. Dr. Marjorie Kostelnik, dean, UNL College of Education and Human Sciences and Dr. Helen Raikes, Willa Cather Professor, UNL Dept. of Child, Youth and Family Studies will moderate the panel. To commemorate Earth Day, author Julene Bair will read from and discuss her new memoir "The Ogallala Road: A Memoir of Love and Reckoning." In her memoir, Bair tries to reconcile the preservation of her father's farm and providing for her son with the ecological harm of aquifer depletion.

 Ogallala Aquifer Webinar

The Ogallala Aquifer is one of the largest aquifers in the world, underlying an area of approximately 174,000 square miles, and is a major source of irrigation water in the United States. What is the current health of the aquifer? Has efficient irrigation helped sustain the aquifer's levels?
