THANK YOU!

Thanks to everyone who attended the June 4 Education Results Network (ERN) meeting! About 200 people participated in the meeting, which focused on a variety of topics, including summer learning, equity and advocacy. Taking a cue from the King County Library System's hero-themed summer learning program, everybody's "superpowers"  were  celebrated with a little help from Iron Man and Thor.

The presentation and pictures from the meeting are now available:
The next ERN meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, but at a different time of day. We will share details in upcoming newsletters.

Please scroll down to read a variety of updates from around the Road Map Project.

Thanks again!!

Your statements -- from the ERN meeting to Olympia

During the June 4 ERN meeting, many participants took a few minutes to write a statement about why the State Need Grant is so important. Those messages were delivered last week to leaders in Olympia who are negotiating the final budget. Members of the Cradle Through College Coalition (see pictures above) met with Speaker Frank Chopp, Sen. Andy Hill, Rep. Ross Hunter and the legislative aide of Sen. John Braun to hand-deliver the ERN's statements, which were warmly received. Thank you so much for advocating for the State Need Grant!

Softball game supports great cause

The United Way of King County's All-Star Softball Classic for Youth is coming up! This family friendly event is taking place 3 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Safeco Field. The game puts celebrities on the field with youth who are overcoming abuse, homelessness and more. It also brings thousands of individuals and businesses to Safeco Field to make a difference for youth.

This year's roster includes Desiree Hartsock and Chris Siegfried from "The Bachelorette," and retired Sounders Roger Levesque and Taylor Graham. The money raised supports programs that help young people living on the street get a stable home, complete their education and work toward a successful career. Educators invited to dual immersion boot camp

Interested in dual immersion? This month's Dual Immersion Boot Camp for Educators is an opportunity for educators new to dual immersion programs (whether starting one or planning one) to learn from experienced teachers and administrators.

Sponsored by OSPI and the Confucius Institute of the State of Washington, the boot camp will begin with a one-day overview with resources, conversation and demos of immersion teaching. The second day will provide hands-on opportunities for current and new immersion teachers and assistants to work together by language, grade level and all together to focus on concrete preparations for the beginning of the school year.
