Message From the Principal

Last week was all about new beginnings at St. John the Baptist. A new school year, new families to welcome, and new changes to our facility. I know it is early in our journey together, but I already know that our staff is outstanding and I feel blessed to have amazing students and supportive families that really define the word community.  Please remember our faculty and staff in your daily prayers and thank them for all of the sacrifices they and their families make so they can be Catholic Educators.  Please also know that we keep you and your families in our daily prayers.

A big "Thank you" to the PTG and room parents who set up our first events of the school year:  the first day of school parent coffee and student ice cream treat as well as their presence with Back to School Night refreshments - thank you, thank you, thank you! Did you know?  That our first PTG meeting of the year is tomorrow night at 6:00pm and we invite all parents to attend?

Blessings For A Wonderful Week!

Thank You For Helping to Keep Drop Off & Pick-Up's Safe
A big "THANK YOU" to all of our families for adjusting so quickly to our drop off and pick up procedures.  Please continue to keep both of these times of the day safe by remembering to cross in the crosswalk with your children, refraining from parking in the small church lot and not dropping off on San Pablo Avenue.
Appointments: Early Dismissal/Late Arrival
If a child must be excused early, a written note must be brought by the student or an e-mail (cc: to school office) to the child's teacher the morning of the appointment stating the reason for the early dismissal. At dismissal time, the parent/guardian must go to the School Office to pick up the child and sign the attendance log. If the child returns to school after the appointment he/she must report to the School Office and obtain an entry ticket from office personnel. Students arriving late or leaving early for medical/dental appointments will receive an excused absence only if dated forms are brought back from the doctor or dentist stating the time spent there. These students will not be marked tardy or receive half day absences. Only verified medical/dental appointments are considered excused day absences.
Parish Festival, Sunday, September 27th
Please mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 27th.  That's the weekend of our Parish Festival, St. John the Baptist's Church major fund-raising event of the year.  The Sunday festival will feature children's carnival games, an international food booth and live entertainment.  It is a fun event for the whole family.  We look forward to seeing all the old and new faces of our St. John's families.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!  To start earning parent hours, click the link to volunteer for the festival:    http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f48afaf23a4fd0-2015
Art Awareness Program
We are pleased to announce a new art program at St. John the Baptist school for the 2015-2016 school year!  Ms. Okada (5th) and Mrs. Fehr (1st) have created a curriculum that will bring visual arts awareness to all K-8 students.
Each month will feature a new grade appropriate art project with a theme that spans each grade. Students will learn a specific technique for each project that is featured throughout the school year. These techniques cannot only be used in the visual arts, but can translate into other projects as well.
We are hoping that this will inspire our students to be more creative and to incorporate art into our educational environment.
In the spring, Ms. Okada & Mrs. Fehr will select the pieces that best represent our school as a community to be shown in the Lillian Black Art Fair for the Diocese of Oakland.
If you have any questions about the program you can contact Ms. Okada or Mrs. Fehr at their email addresses.

All parents or guardians who volunteer at St. John School must complete a Safe Environment Training course and have a LIVE SCAN on file. The training is done online at www.shieldthevulnerable.org and a live scan can be completed at any local police station.  After completing the course, please print out the certificate of completion and bring it to the office for our records. After completing the live scan, please bring receipt of completion to main office for reimbursement and filing.  No one may volunteer at the school site or go on a field trip without this on-line training and live scan complete. We hope to announce another on campus LIVE SCAN screening for next week soon.  You can also complete your LIVE SCAN at any UPS store that offers the service and we will be happy to reimburse you if you bring your receipt to the main office.  Please bring the attached form and identification with you.
