Dear USAID friends,
It was an amazing month for international development.
Gathered at the United Nations, world leaders agreed to Global Goals that could finally lead to the end of extreme poverty by 2030. A new USAID Saving Mothers, Saving Lives report cites dramatic drops in maternal deaths at targeted facilities in Zambia and Uganda. And researchers who created river blindness and malaria medicines that help USAID save thousands of lives became Nobel laureates.
Behind every benchmark reached, there are a thousand other stories of individuals, families or communities impacted by the support of international development investments.
They are the stories of a bustling factory in the mountaintop town of Robin, Haiti, that produces high-tech tablets, supporting dozens of good jobs and giving community health workers like Ketcia an affordable tool for tracking information as they visit moms in rural households. Or the story of Zubeida, a disabled mom from India who is fighting stigma and exercising her rights for the first time. For Jessel of San Pedro Sula, Honduras -- a city often cited as the murder capital of the world -- it means offering dozens of youth the opportunity to choose alternatives to gangs and violence by strapping on a pair of rollerblades.
The stories you find on the USAID Storytelling Hub reflect our unrelenting effort to improve the lives of millions around the world so that all people can live a life free of poverty. Although we celebrate these small victories, we see the opportunity to do so much more in the years to come. All in for the Goals!
Sincerely,
The USAID Team |
