Give Your Nails A Winter Vacation
Pedicures are not the problem, it's the polish. Nail polish usually contains formaldehyde and polish remover often contains acetone and both can be pretty damaging to your nails after constant non-stop exposure.

If your nails are yellowing, peeling or your cuticles are rough and dry --give your nails a break. Damaged nails can be more prone to fungus. For optimal foot and nail health, use polish only in the spring and summer, when the weather actually allows open-toed shoes and regular exposure to air and sunshine. Try treating any brittleness or yellowing with some tea tree oil and lemon juice.

Spotlight:
Hiking enthusiast and Dr. Cohen's right-hand for 9 years; Maria Nielsen shares her skin-care secrets and love of 14ers!
 When Maria is not assisting Dr. Cohen at AboutSkin, you can find her exploring the Rocky Mountains. "As many Coloradans, I got hooked on hiking the 14ers. I love the mental and physical challenge of summiting a 14er and you just can't beat the amazing view from the top," said Maria.

With 25 of the 14ers under her belt she is the go-to-expert for all things nature at the office. Maria and her husband (who also works at AboutSkin) even started a free Colorado hiking trails website, with hiking trail stats, maps, photos, weather forecast and much more.
