House Update: August 2015
Michelle's Message

Hello,

The Ronald McDonald House is often called "the House that love built." Truly, we are the House that love sustains and our hard-working and dedicated volunteers are the heart and soul of this organization. In 2014, the Ronald McDonald House had over 337 registered volunteers. These 337 volunteers put in over 32,000 cumulative hours of work saving the Ronald McDonald House approximately $732,447 just last year. This devotion to our families and the Ronald McDonald House mission of keeping families together makes it possible for our organization to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Ronald McDonald House of Indiana offers a variety of opportunities for groups and individuals looking to volunteer on either a one-time or continuing basis. Whether it's working at the front desk, organizing the pantry, collecting pop tabs, or preparing a meal, the time and effort put forth by our volunteers makes a significant difference to the families that stay here.

For more information on how you can volunteer to make a difference in the lives of our families, please visit our website at

Thank you,

Michelle

Abbie's Tabbies

Occasionally we come across stories of hope and strength that leave us inspired. These stories are often about people-like Renee and John Stratton-who are able to find meaning in tragedy and a way for the spirit of a loved one to live on.
From left: Josephine, Hannah and Julianna. The sisters have been collecting "Abbie's Tabbies" since they were young.

On Sept. 17, 2002, Renee and John Stratton welcomed beautiful twin girls, Abigail and Josephine, into the world. During her pregnancy, Renee suffered an undiagnosed complication known as twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, a disease of the placenta that affects some identical twin pregnancies. The girls were born prematurely and struggled with multiple medical issues. On Oct. 15, at only 28-days-old, Abigail lost her fight.
From left: Josephine, Julianna and Hannah. Every year, the girls stand in front of the wall of hearts at the House for their annual Christmas card.

Soon after bringing Josephine home, the family began collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Abigail's memory. After welcoming two more daughters into the world, Hanna and Juliana, the family project blossomed into something much more. "Abbie's Tabbies" became a unifying family project to honor the memory of Abbie and to support the House and families going through a difficult time.
