Jail-A-Thon Wrap-Up

River Cities United Way is proud to report we have raised just over $4,000 with our Jail-A-Thon held on Friday, March 27th. Over 26 participants raised bail that was assigned to them through the 49 warrants purchased by their co-workers, family and friends... some participants having had several warrants purchased against them, raising their bail.

The event caught the attention of our friends at River Scene Magazine who created an awesome video montage of the day. View their video at  http://riverscenemagazine.com/story/community-volunteers/2015/03/you-are-under-arrest-for-the-united-way-jail-a-thon/

From Social Service Interagency Council...
After participation in the Teen Dating Violence presentations at Telesis Preparatory, Colleen Mattinson, the Advocacy Services Case Worker was facilitating Student Assistance Program and the students that attended the presentation reported feeling very touched and captivated. The students have been working with the Power Wheel that was a part of the presentation ever since receiving the information and have become more aware of negative behavior in peers and even themselves. Teen Dating Violence awareness impacted these teens, causing them to identify and begin to correct those negative behaviors.

Kids Bright & Healthy has funds available

Imagine a third grader goes to school - her cheek is swollen, and her gum is bleeding. She goes directly to the Nurse's Office. She has an abscessed tooth and is in pain. She can't eat, and surely she can't go to class in this condition. The Nurse immediately phoned our United Way and arranged an emergency appointment. Thanks to the cooperation between the Dental Office and the School District, this little girl got the dental assistance she needed - and at a substantial discount.

If you know of a student in need who does not have insurance, please contact Ashley Wood at (928) 855-6333.

Quote of the month...
"Being the first to cross the finish line makes you a winner in only one phase of life.  It's what you do after you cross the line that really counts."
- Ralph Boston

River Cities United Way is reaching the finish line in our 2014-2015 campaign year, but just because we've reached the goal doesn't mean we're giving up. Thanks to the generosity of members of our community we're going above and beyond.
