Why Greece Matters for Everyone

Rana Foroohar @RanaForoohar  July 6, 2015

Like it or not, Greece is a domino that will have ripple effects throughout the rest of the world

Greece is a tiny country. It's 0.3 % of the GDP of the world. Most private creditors took their money out of the debt-ridden nation years ago. So why is the possible exit of Greece from the Eurozone rocking markets?

Because it represents what could be the end of the biggest, most benevolent experiment in globalization, ever.

VIETNAMESE IMMIGRANT:

On Saturday, July 24th, 2010 the town of Prescott Valley, AZ, hosted a Freedom Rally. Quang Nguyen was asked to speak on his experience of coming to America and what it means. He spoke the following in dedication to all Vietnam Veterans. Thought you might enjoy hearing what he had to say:

35 years ago, if you were to tell me that I am going to stand up here speaking to a couple thousand patriots, in English, I'd laugh at you. Man, every morning I wake up thanking God for putting me and my family in the greatest country on earth.

I just want you all to know that the American dream does exist and I am living the American dream. I was asked to speak to you about my experience as a first generation Vietnamese-American, but I'd rather speak to you as an American.

RVPlease: that Iraq credit rating is a 7 then?

RVPlease: Hows come in the previous column... its also a 7... that doesnt make much sense..

Donnie: '@RVPlease' Their rating last year was 7 also

TXtrader: Unfortunately, RVPlease, i believe some of the Bond information put out earlier today was incorrectly interpreted. Per the only three credit rating agencies that matter world wide, S&P, Moody's, and Fitch, none have a credit rating listed for iraq.

chattels: Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is pushing to control all oil sales from Kirkuk province - a further sign that a cooperative oil export and revenue sharing deal with Baghdad has disintegrated. The federal North Oil Company (NOC) is continuing to pump about 150,000 barrels per day (bpd) from Kirkuk fields into Kurdistan's autonomous pipeline to Turkey, according to both federal and KRG oil officials.

Sovereign Man

July 9, 2015   Hong Kong

It's eerily befitting that at this very second, all of South China is frantically anticipating a major storm bearing down on the region.

In this part of the world they call them typhoons, which comes from the Chinese 'tai fung', meaning 'strong wind'.

And strong they are. Here on the 33rd floor of my hotel in Kowloon right now, I can hear the wind whipping ominously as if it's about to blow right through the windowpane.

quicktolegit96: All other countries (and a limited number of supranational multilateral/regional financial institutions) are classified into one of eight categories (0-7) through the application of a two-step methodology:

1. The Country Risk Assessment Model (CRAM) produces a quantitative assessment of country credit risk based on three groups of risk indicators (the payment experience of the Participants, the financial situation and the economic situation).

2. A qualitative assessment of the CRAM results by country risk experts from OECD members, considered country-by-country to integrate political risk and/or other risk factors not taken (fully) into account by the CRAM. Accordingly, the final country risk classifications are achieved through a thorough discussion amongst experts and a consensus-building process.

Thursday News Summaries and Commentaries

Government intervention of the World Bank as a partner in the formulation of the budget in 2016

You provide us with a loan that will help our deficit situation and in return we will allow you to step in and assist us with how we build our budget for 2016....interesting trade.....one that can be beneficial for Iraq no doubt by having some proven heavy hitters working with them to do some realistic massaging of what their budget really should look like....

Probably not going to make everyone a happy camper that some outsider is looking at their books....but if it means getting back on track....why knock it....swallow the pride and move on.....after all they do continue to struggle in light of oil prices and economic issues.
