Executive Director's Message
Celebrating the Community Investment Act

894 projects in 157 towns for a total of $122.5 million given back to Connecticut

As funding programs go, the Community Investment Act (CIA) has done it all!  Enacted with tremendous bipartisan support in 2005, the CIA provides increased funding for state programs for open space, farmland/dairy production, historic properties and affordable housing projects as well as for important municipal capital improvement initiatives.  For land conservation, the CIA is critical to the viability of the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Program.

Celebrating the New Haven Land Trust's English St. Community Garden with Senator Martin Looney and Mayor Toni Harp

To celebrate the remarkable success of the CIA program, CLCC and our coalition partners are hosting a series of tours of several CIA project success stories from around the state.  Joined by members of the Senate and House leadership, local officials, and representatives of the community and non-profit organizations that have worked to make these projects happen, these events showcase the impact that the CIA has had upon our quality of life and local economies - providing across the board protection and enhancement of the natural, historic and cultural resources that make our communities so special.

Senator Bob Duff joins us at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk
Join us at our next CIA event!  On December 3 at 1pm, Rep. Joe Aresimowicz will join us at the Southington Community Cultural Arts Building. Please contact me for further information.

Protecting the level and integrity of the Community Investment Act is an annual priority for CLCC.  Please join us!

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving!

With warmest regards,

Amy

Federal News - Conservation Tax Incentive Update - Your Help Needed Now!

Senator Murphy Seeking CT Conservation Easement Deal Success Stories for Senate Floor Statements

From Jesse Young, Legislative Assistant to Senator Chris Murphy

Next week, Senator Murphy will be leading a series of of Senate floor speeches in support of the federal tax deduction for land conservation easements. As you all know, it expired at the beginning of the year -- and is now being debated for inclusion in a year-end package of tax law renewals.

As part of this push, we are hoping to arm Chris with some good stories about land preservation deals in Connecticut that wouldn't have closed without the stepped-up federal tax write-off. If you have any that come to mind, please shoot me a quick blurb so that Chris can hopefully share many of those stories on the Senate floor next week. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions. Thanks so very much!

NRCS EQIP Applications Now Being Accepted
From CT NRCS

Connecticut Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State Conservationist Lisa Coverdale announced last month that the final date to accept applications for the next Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) ranking period is Friday, December 19, 2014.

EQIP provides payments for implementing conservation practices that have a positive environmental impact, while protecting long-term agricultural production and sustainability. NRCS professionals work with producers to develop a conservation plan for their operation, design practices, and provide guidance to help implement the plan. Applications for EQIP received after the December 19 deadline will be accepted and considered, if funds are still available. Further information can be found HERE
