Epiphany's Summer Baptism Extravaganza

This Sunday, August 2! Join us to celebrate not one, but FIVE baptisms at the 10:30 am service. We will welcome into the Body of Christ two young children and three infants from the Hart, Allen, Govey and Henrique families. We look forward to observing this important sacrament with them.

Parish Goals

First goal: Spiritual practices
We will grow as Christians by learning and practicing spiritual habits that deepen our relationships with God and each other.

Second Goal: Stewardship
We seek to grow in gratitude, generosity and commitment to our church, each other and the wider community, by recognizing more fully our many gifts from God in our parish and in our own lives.

Third Goal: Church Beyond the Walls
We will ensure that Church Beyond the Walls continues to thrive as a worshiping community, by defining its future relationship with Epiphany, and by creating a plan for its sustainability.

Dear Epiphany,

If last week our worship was all about bread, then this week is it is all about water! This Sunday we bring into Christ's fellowship five young children from four families, through the water of new life. This time of year we revel in the joy of water whether a swim at the beach, a picnic by the shore, a sunset over the bay or a boat ride through the waves. In and through water God has created us, sustains our life in food and drink, renews the Earth, cleanses us and calms our souls. Being near water, even more than in the mountains or woods, has been proven to reduce stress and increase feelings of well-being. We know water is vital for the health of body and soul. So it is with the waters of baptism because God's grace is vital for the health and wholeness of our common life. So each time you drink a glass of water, wash your face in the morning or sit by the vast ocean, may you remember your baptism. Remember that you have been given new life by water and the Holy Spirit and were "marked as Christ's own forever." Into the miracle of that grace and the whole Christian community, we rejoice to welcome Nastara, Blake, Wesley, Madilyn and Magnolia.

Blessings and Peace to you,

Jennifer

  • Retreat Survey
  • Acolyte & Em training

The Education Commission recently offered a survey to Parishioners to see if there was a level of interest for developing an ongoing Spiritual Retreat Program. Using the web site Survey Monkey, we got some great data on the parish's thoughts on retreats. To see the preliminary results, please click here.

We will be looking to do the following in the days and weeks to come:

    1. Plan and execute a "Men's Retreat" at SSJE/Cambridge in September 2015 ( See details in this e-News with more to be forthcoming shortly)
    2. Plan a second retreat in the Spring, topic and location TBD
    3. Explore ways to keep personal and parish costs as reasonable as possible
    4. Explore ways to assist parents in particular to be able to attend
    5. Develop a regular update of individual retreats offered around our area for reference
The survey will remain open until the end of August. We encourage EVERYONE to complete it so we have a very detailed and representative result.

  • Stewardship: A week at Epiphany
  • As a relatively small suburban parish, the Church of the Epiphany might easily be perceived by some as being active only on Sunday mornings when the parking lots are full. But nothing could be farther from the truth with the many ongoing workings and activities throughout the week that 'reflect the depth of its parishioners praising God and helping others as called forth in the Gospels'. Looking at the whole week allows us to better understand our parish and as we reflect on Stewardship as a Way of Life to consider ways in which we can each make Church of the Epiphany 'an ever-stronger and growing community of faith'.

A week at Epiphany - Monday
While the Parish Office is typically closed on Mondays, it is not unusual to find the Sexton or the Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Commission tending to building maintenance, or the Parish Administrator trying to catch up, or get a head start on her many responsibilities. With a relatively quiet building, the Rector may be found in her office reflecting on the week to come or her next sermon. The first Monday of each month will also typically find the Stewardship Commission meeting in the Living Room at 6:00pm.

A week at Epiphany - Tuesday
The Parish Office is 'officially' open at 10 a.m. Our Sexton, Jim Hibbert, having unlocked the doors, may be found in the Parish Hall setting up for the evenings activities. The Parish Administrator, Beth Dench, can be found juggling her many responsibilities, the Rector, the Rev'd Jennifer Zogg, may be in her office, at Diocesan House or on one of her many pastoral visits.

At 5 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, parishioners from the Church of Epiphany led by the Outreach Commission can be found at the Bread of Life Food Pantry at neighboring Newman Congregational Church.

At 6 p.m. on Tuesday evenings, the Parish Hall may be dark and relatively quiet but not empty as the Gentle Yoga class is in progress, while later in the evening Church of the Epiphany plays host to another community support group.

  • Nametags: As our new Rector, Jen Zogg (Rev'd Jen) begins her ministry at Epiphany it is especially important that parishioners make every effort to wear their nametags while at church. If you need a nametag please add your name to the list on the table in the entrance of the church or email Beth in the office at [email protected].

Announcements: If you would like an announcement to be included in Sunday's bulletin, please have your request into the office by the Wednesday before that Sunday. All submissions should be made to Beth, our Parish Administrator, by email ([email protected]). Please make sure that the announcement contains all details-who, what, where, when and contact information.
