Eagle Scout Project Benefits Fremont Township Community Garden

Thank you to Daniel Scheuer, Troop 388 for his contributions to the Fremont Township Community Garden. His Eagle Scout projects include a bug hotel, a top bar beehive and a bird bath fed by a rain barrel.  I invite you to stop by and walk through our organic garden and see the projects.

The Mundelein High School Shop Class built our shed and the girl scouts donated the painted bird houses.  Our Community Garden provides fresh produce to our low income seniors and food pantry clients and provides educational opportunities to our community.  Thank you to Alicia Dodd for her leadership and vision for this garden and all the people who volunteer. New volunteers are always welcome.

What is going on with the Diamond Lake Road Closure?
Update on Diamond Lake Road Culvert Replacement
Once the project was through design, the materials were ready, and the utilities were moved out of the way, the contractor was able to start construction. The first step was demolition and excavation to construct the foundations, but the heavy rains last Thursday and Friday pushed them back a few days. The contractor will resume excavation work once water levels go down. As soon as they are able to pour the new foundations, they can then replace the culvert and finally reconstruct the roadway over the creek. Based on current plans and weather permitting, LCDOT estimates the road will reopen in early October.

Recycle Sheets, Blankets, Towels, for the Dogs
If you have used towels, sheets or blankets that need to be recycled, please consider bringing them to Fremont Township at 22385 Rt 60, Mundelein to be donated to local Animal Shelters and Rescues.  Please drop them in the bin on the front porch. This keeps them out of the landfill and puts them to good use.

We also accept eye glasses and shoes to be recycled year round.  If you are disposing of shoes that have laces, please tie the laces together.
Community Room Available
Duplicate Bridge is played in our Community Room on Monday mornings, but I wanted to let you know that if you would like to get a group together to play pinnochle, mahjong or other games, we do have 10 card tables.  The community room is available during the day, free of charge to our Fremont Township residents for community type events.

The room is heavily used after school by our local scouts and in the evenings by homeowner associations.
Pickleball Courts Are Open
We have had great response to our new pickleball courts at Behm Park. This was a request from our residents and we are happy to be getting such great feedback.  If you want to see what the sport is, there is a group that plays every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30 am.  The courts are available all day every day.  I played with the residents on Monday and it was so much fun.  I had never heard of pickleball, but it is the fastest growing sport in the country.
