The Conversion of St. Paul
Monday, Jan. 25th is the Feast Day of the Conversion of St. Paul
I was traveling to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, when at midday along the road, your Excellency, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and my companions. When we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, `Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It hurts you to kick against the goads.' I asked, `Who are you, Lord?' The Lord answered, `I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. Acts 26:9-21 (excerpt)
News from the Atria

Dear Families,

I'm so glad that many of you could stay for the all parish meeting last Sunday.  Thank you, Tim Klatt, for your presentation to everyone on Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS).

Thank you, everyone, for your patience as we transition to two spaces, or "atria" for CGS, and try out different time slots.  We will be working out kinks for a few Sundays to come.  The schedule is below for this Sunday, Jan. 24, and please note the large time window.  If it suits more families to have Catechesis time overlap with the Eucharist, we will move back in that direction.

The nursery is now in Classroom 6.  We will be limiting the age to 4 and below for the nursery.  So the options for older children, 5 and above, will be to attend an atrium, to acolyte if it's their scheduled day, or to participate with their parents in the service.

Again, times for this Sunday only:

8:30am -11:15am - Level I atrium, classroom 3 (ages 3-6)
8:30am - 11:15am - Level II atrium, classroom 2 (ages 6 and above)

The atrium children, as before, will be brought in at the Offertory, if they stay til 11:15.

Yours in Christ,
Kelly
How To Speak Episcopalian

The Good Word this week is

Processional

You may have noticed that our services actually start in the back of the large area of the church, called the "nave," and process to the front or "chancel." Ever wondered why that is? Do we just like a fancy parade to start the service? Not at all, like almost everything else we do, the Processional is an act of worship.

The entrance Procession includes most of the people involved in the Liturgy (that word again!). and it is only the first of at least four Processions. The Cross leads, and the Gospel Book is carried in. It typically leads to the altar, but some festal Processions can get a lot fancier than that, with torches, banners, incense and pauses at certain spots along the way.

The gospel procession includes our adorable acolytes, the gospeller, crucifer, etc. We are so blessed to have this new corps of acolytes now, in training with Holly and Charles Davis.

At the Offertory Procession, representatives of our families bring the offerings of bread, wine and gifts to the altar for the celebrant to bless for the Eucharist.

When we celebrate Holy Baptism, we may also have a Baptismal Procession to the font that includes the one(s) to be Baptised, children who want to watch up close, etc. Other types of services engender other types of Processions, as well.

The Recessional is the closing act of worship as we go our separate ways to again, be the church in the world, to represent the face of Christ in our homes and neighborhoods, living out our worship.

A Few Good Samaritans Needed

Some of you may know that there are several folks at the rehabilitation center next door to ECR, who would like to attend the 10:30 Eucharist Service regularly. That requires that someone walk over and push their wheelchair over to the church. We need more volunteers to help our ushers and others. Please see Fr. Billy Tweedie and Mr. Joe Page to assist these lovely people who want to join us in Holy Communion.
