Harbor Center Happenings
Greetings From our General Manager

As we begin writing this new chapter called 2016, I can't help but reflect on 2015.  The past year was a spectacular one at the Harbor Center, filled with hundreds of event days and thousands of people streaming through the doors.

Business was conducted, laughs were shared, money was raised by a variety of non-profits to help our community, performances were enjoyed, families shared special moments and memories were created that will last a lifetime.  Maybe you attended the circus, or did you sit proudly at a child's dance recital, graduation or Taekwondo tournament ?   Maybe you danced the night away at one of the many parties, attended an LSU continuing education class or the SALT Conference for seniors. Whatever the reason, I hope that you had many opportunities during 2015 to enjoy your Northshore Harbor Center.  It was indeed an honor to host so many special events during the past year and to bring so many events to our community that otherwise wouldn't be here.  The quilt, Depression glass and boat shows, the regional dance and cheerleading competitions and of course, the LA Veterans Festival represent just a few of those events.  The Harbor Center was also honored to be named one of the Best Meeting Sites in the South by readers of ConventionSouth Magazine for the 4 th  consecutive year .

Finally, the Harbor Center received the results of our yearly Economic Output Study that is contracted with the Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Research Center.  It concluded that your Northshore Harbor Center generated a $3.5 million economic output for 2014, a 25% increase over the $2.8 million generated in 2013 , and it is projected that 2015 will reflect another increase.  This is just a taste of all of the wonderful things that took place during 2015, and with significant business already on the books 2016 promises to be even better. Please make sure to read our newsletter and review our calendar of events so you don't miss any of the exciting happenings at the Harbor Center.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Harbor Center Awarded Readers Choice Award for 2015

It is with honor that the publishers and editors of ConventionSouth, the national multimedia resource for planning events in the South, present Northshore Harbor Center with a 2015 Readers' Choice Award.
"ConventionSouth readers and fans have voted to decide the best meeting sites in the South, and it is no surprise to us that Northshore Harbor Center has been selected to receive our annual Readers' Choice Award," said ConventionSouth Publisher J. Talty O'Connor. "The value in receiving this prestigious recognition is that it comes from the United States' top meeting professionals who hold events in the South. These planners demand the highest level of customer service and quality facilities, and they have contributed in determining that Northshore Harbor Center indeed displays the commitment to professionalism, creativity and service that they require."
Northshore Harbor Center is among convention and visitor bureaus (CVBs), meeting facilities and hotels located across the South to receive this year's Readers' Choice Award. Throughout the year, meeting professionals nominated the meeting sites they believe provide exemplary service for group events. The nominated sites are then compiled onto an online ballot where meeting professionals and fans are asked to vote for the best of the best.
Since creation in 2001, this is the fifth time that Northshore Harbor Center has received the award, making it an even greater honor to present it with a 2015 Readers' Choice Award. "It is a tremendous honor for the Harbor Center to receive this recognition again. To be chosen by the readers of Convention South Magazine affirms that our goal is being met - to provide the highest level of service to our clients." said Kathy Lowrey, General Manager.
Northshore Harbor Center was featured as an award recipient in the December 2015 Awards Issue of ConventionSouth magazine

Giving Back
In December, the Northshore Harbor Center held the annual Marine Toys for Tots toy drive for local families, during the holiday season. Due to the overwhelming generosity of the community over a thousand toys were donated and distributed to hundreds of children in the Slidell area helping to brighten Christmas. The Northshore Harbor Center staff would like to thank the New Orleans Marine Corps., businesses that helped collect toys by being a drop off location, those who attended the Marine Concert, those who donated toys or donated food to feed the volunteers, and everyone who volunteered time to help. Without everyone involved the distribution wouldn't be possible.
