Making Connections with PAWS

Bo Knittle, PAWS Therapy Companion

"It is with a happy heart that I'm passing on an e-mail I received from Dorothy Fisch, the former children's librarian at the Frankford Library.  I had been in touch with her, after a PAWS for Reading visit at Frankford the other day, about one of the children who participates in the PAWS program.

"Hi Gloria,

As I think about the little girl and boy getting a dog, I realize the profound effect you've had on that family. The girl was so afraid of dogs until you and Bo eased her into a new comfort zone. She also was timid about reading aloud and chose such easy books at first.  You must feel very gratified to see her transformation. Thanks again for doing the PAWS program at the library,

Dorothy

"PAWS is doing its magic down here...thank you very much!!"

Tidbit Corner: Keep Pets Safe in the Heat
" The summer months can be uncomfortable -even dangerous- for pets and people. It's difficult enough simply to cope with rising temperatures, let alone thick humidity, but things really get tough in areas that are hit with the double blow of intense heat and  storms.

"We can help you keep your pets safe and cool this summer. Follow our tips for helping everyone in your family stay healthy and comfortable when the heat is on (and even if the power isn't)."

Shining Stars: Team Shriver

When Rick and Stacie Shriver joined PAWS for People this past February with their bloodhound puppy, Hank, they said that they were willing to visit any site in need. At the time, there was a call for teams to visit adults with disabilities. Rick and Stacie answered that call and visit at two different sites for adults with disabilities, CHIMES and CERTS. They also recently went on their first visit to Brandywine Senior Living in Sussex County. Thank you Rick, Stacie, and Hank!
