LEARN AT THE LIBRARY

Come in for hands-on learning.
There's still time to drop in and learn about tools and resources you get access to with your library card. Learn @ the Library goes through Friday, September 4. Drop in between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and staff will show you resources and guide you through using them.

Today (Wednesday, Sept. 2) come learn about e-reading options, including e-books to digital magazines you can read on the go. If you bring your favorite device we can get you reading before you leave!

Thursday, September 3: Realize your dream of learning a new language, researching your family tree - or more! We're showcasing the many online research tools you get access to with your library card. From full-text articles from publications such as Consumer Reports, to Ancestry.com, to test prep, to language learning tools.

Friday, September 4: Knowledgeable staff will show you all the ways to renew your books.

LAUREN FOX ON WRITING

You live down the street from an author.

And she's a great one! Join us in celebrating the success of Shorewood-based novelist, Lauren Fox, on Tuesday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. Lauren will speak about her latest book, Days of Awe, and will also focus closely on sharing what she has learned along the way to success.

She's particularly excited to reach the writing community, to relate her experience with getting published, and get the conversation going about staying grounded, inspired and creative. So come party, talk books, and have an awesome time.

Co-sponsored by Boswell Book Co., who will sell books at the event.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT

Pins & Needles

Starting this month, we will be sponsoring our first community-based knitting group - Pins & Needles. This group is geared towards adults, but older teens are welcome as well. So, whether you're currently working on a project or looking to start a new one, join us for some inspiration and motivation.

Our first meeting is on

Thursday, September 3rd at

6:30 PM, and on the first Thursday of the month thereafter.

Please bring your own supplies and project. Other crafts welcome, too!

School out? Come in!

This fall when school is out, we're open and hosting all kinds of programs for K-12.

Recurring After School Programs

Art Cart - Every Wednesday at 3:30. All ages welcome, but projects are most appropriate for school-age kids.

Lego Club - Every other Thursday at 3:30. First grade and up.

Teen Tuesday - Every other Tuesday at 4:00 starting September 22. In the Village Center meeting room downstairs - so that means snacks are allowed! Grades 7-12

Tinker Lab - Third Thursdays at 4:00 starting in October.

Day Off Programs

Friday Fun: Monster Madness - Fri., Sept. 11th (no school, Atwater & Lake Bluff). Come spend the afternoon making a monster out of recycled goods.

Halloween Happening - Fri. Oct. 30, 2:30.

Fall into Learning at the Library

As students from preschool to graduate school head back to the classroom, you may get the itch to learn something new, too.

Want to do research for a paper or your family genealogy,

...the Shorewood Public Library has people and resources to help you.

September is also Library Card Sign-up Month when the American Library Association and public libraries across the country remind communities that registering for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning.
