YOUR BOARD AT WORK FOR YOU! |
NKBA Manhattan Officers were trained by Dawn DeLuca,
Region 1 Director and
Chapter Representative of the Westchester Chapter, and hosted by Cosentino Center, Westchester
The Manhattan and Westchester Boards joined on Saturday, January 9, at the Cosentino Westchester showroom in Mt. Kisco for annual training. Each year in January, every NKBA board member must complete a day of education and skills sharpening, in preparation for planning and producing another great year of programming and events. Thank you, Dawn DeLuca for an energetic and inspiring training program, to Mark Rosenhaus for additional support, and to Wayne Tucker
Cosentino Center Westchester for getting there early to turn on the heat and make the showroom available all day. Cosentino was once again a wonderful host and provided a beautiful, comfortable location for the meeting, and a delicious breakfast and lunch.
Members can visit the new Cosentino City Center in NYC on January 27 for the presentation "Ultracompact Surfacing" and earn 0.1 CEU. Details and to register:

NEW BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
CHRIS NICOLE PRINCE,
VP PROGRAMS
Chris Nicole Prince has always seen herself as a "design chameleon." Characterized by its ability to change color yet retain its shape, she epitomizes that definition by melding the best of traditional design with her singular vision of the future. She has used that vision as an interior designer, showroom owner, product developer, and now as a consultant.
As the former owner of Simon's Hardware & Bath, Chris metamorphosed and branded the decorative store into a showcase of couture home design. She created the bath and kitchen division and later a tile and lighting department.
With a flair for spotting trends, such as adapting commercial kitchen appliances for residential use, Chris redesigned the KWC Semi-Pro faucet, previously used only commercially in Europe, for the American home market .
Her work has been widely published and she has made numerous television appearances. A bathroom she designed for the Cancer Research Institute Design Show House appeared in several books and magazines, including BATHROOM distributed by Rizzoli through St. Martins Press, and graced the cover of Kitchen and Bath News. Her designs have appeared in Interior Design magazine, Metropolis, and The New York Times, to name a few.
Today, Chris consults with leading NYC showrooms and with manufacturers on merchandising, marketing and branding. She sat on the board of IFDA and now serves as 2016 VP of Programs for the Manhattan Chapter of NKBA, working hard to develop valuable, compelling programs and events. "Serving on the Board is a way of giving back to an industry that has been very good to me and which I love," she says.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Hello and welcome to a brand new year with the NKBA Manhattan Chapter! As your new President, I greet you with the spirit and good cheer of the holidays still fresh in my mind as we embark on another great year, planned for you, our valued membership.
We've just completed an exciting year under the leadership of our Immediate Past President, Kent Brasloff, and we will certainly carry on with our mission to bring you top-notch programs and education in the months ahead.
As I reflect on this past year, I recall two programs that really stood out: our Kitchen of Tomorrow symposium, where we hosted three exceptional speakers, each offering their own view on building, living in and designing the kitchens of tomorrow. We hung on their every word as they shared how they meet the needs of today's clientele.
As designers, we must be prepared to design interiors that will impact our client' lives in a positive way, both now and in the future. Anticipating any challenges they may face as they age in-place and as the world changes should be a pointed consideration.
And then we had the honor and pleasure of hosting the NKBA National President, Maria Stapperfenne, who came to our October Chapter Meeting. Maria led a fun and interactive discussion on "Listening" to your clients, and how to analyze different personalities so you can communicate with them in an effective way. It was an insightful and informative evening; thank you, Maria!
This year we have all kinds of goodies planned for you, so stay tuned. Your Board has already begun! Please save the date and join us at our first chapter event of the year on January 27th. "Surfaces" is the subject matter, 0.1 C.E.U., to be presented at the new Cosentino City Center at 150 East 58th Street. You'll find more details and a link to registration in this newsletter. This is an event not to be missed!
So, we look forward to a fantastic year with you. Please feel free to get involved, this is your chapter. Volunteer and serve on a committee. Become an auxiliary Board member. We welcome your support and engagement. We're always here working for you.
RENEE RIDDICK
Manhattan Chapter President
