At Long Last!

Project Transitions modernizes its administrative and program offices with a generous donation from Dell Computers.
For the past three weeks, the staff at Project Transitions is still getting used to large, high-resolution flat screen monitors and lightning-fast performance at their desks with the help of a sorely needed donation of brand new computers worth over $20,000 from Dell.

We are no longer clicking on a file and waiting for our computers to "think about it" as it slowly opens on the desktop, nor do we hear each other lament, that "My computer is acting up!" as if dealing with a precocious 6 year-old child throwing a fit at the checkout line at the grocery store.

With this modernization, Project Transitions has been able to operate more efficiently without the usual frustration and headaches that antiquated systems are notorious for creating.

"Our team was able to work around sluggish technology and small computer screens for years," say Craig Thibodeau, Executive Director.

"This gift was at the top of the wish list for all of us and has made it possible for us to work smarter, not harder, thus increasing productivity, and that's the most important thing, thanks to Dell!"
Season For Caring Wrap-Up

Many thanks to the Austin American-Statesman Season For Caring program for selecting the Aung-Min family, residents at our housing program, Roosevelt Gardens, to be beneficiaries for last year's campaign. The program raised over $549,000 in monetary contributions as well as $124,000 worth of in-kind donations that was shared between 12 families in need that were nominated and selected from different non-profit organizations in the Austin area.

Although the campaign is called a "Season for Caring," its effects can be witnessed all year long. After the needs of the featured families are met, the participating agencies use the funds raised during this campaign to provide emergency services to families throughout Central Texas. In many cases, this will include money for rent, utilities, groceries, medications, and medical co-payments.

Everything on the Aung-min's wish list was addressed including English for a second language class tuition at ACC. After their needs were met, we used funds for the next resident with the greatest need and her family, Ruby Jones.

In addition to the wonderful gift from Janssen Therapeudics, Project Transitions received a $5000 grant from the Broadway Cares/ Equity Fight AIDS program.

Toy Drive at the Iron Bear
Saturday, December 13th 3pm-2am

It's that time again for all you bears, otters, gorillas, monkeys, and their fans and admirers to show up with toys in hand at the Iron Bear for an all-day/night toy drive.

Last year was an incredible success when Glenn Eaddy hosted his final toy drive after so many years of helping kids in need. This year, with his blessing, he is allowing the Iron Bear to do the heavy lifting in his name. Let's make sure we continue his amazing spirit of philanthropy and giving by showing up again with a bag or two from your favorite toy store, a gift card or some cash for "Daddy Santa Bear" to work his magic for needy kids during Christmas. Also that night, be sure to stick around for Naughty or Nice and hang out with friends or make new ones and hear the latest club tracks from woof-meister DJ Scott Anderson, Australia's hottest export.

From the residents of Doug's House

Sometimes, when giving occurs under the radar, too few people are aware of how kind and generous we really are to one another. Such has been the case with several businesses around Austin that have quietly and without fanfare provided hot delicious meals to our hospice residents at Doug's House.

Given this season of family, friends and a spirit of thanksgiving, Project Transitions would like to honor the following individuals and establishments for their discrete, albeit generous contribution to the happiness and nutritional needs of those we serve:

  • Eddie Bernal: Blue Star Cafeteria, Santa Rita and 34th Street Cafe
  • Crestview Methodist
  • Lisa & Emmett Fox: Asti and Fino restaurants
  • Gusto Italian Kitchen
  • Hill-Bert's Burgers
  • Jane and John King
  • Kerbey Lane Cafe

Thank you again for your partnership and for making it possible for our residents to enjoy delicious meals that you generously provide.

Next year won't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing!

Thank you for supporting our 25th Anniversary Silver Ball Gala, in lieu of our much anticipated December event, Holiday Swing.

Holiday Swing will be back bigger than ever with Sentimental Journey Orchestra at the Austin Music Hall on December 5th, 2015!

A special performance by longtime supporters,
