Send Us Your
Family Photo

The church directory is still missing many member and family photos, and there are many more that need updated. If you happen to take a photo this summer of you or your family, please send it to us so we can update your photo or add it to our directory.

JPEG images may be emailed to Kaitlin Dunn, UPC's Administrative Assistant, at [email protected].

Youth Choir
Leadership Team

Are you an active High School member of the Youth Choir? Do you have ideas about what the choir should do this year: parties, Christmas caroling, a musical, Montreat, benefit concerts?

Then you're invited to join the Youth Choir Leadership Team! We'll meet on Sunday, August 23, at 5 p.m. in Beth's office to get our year organized and select officers. Contact Beth to learn more.

PYPs Summer Events

Parents of Young Presbyterians (PYPs) is a group for parents of children who are infants through fifth grade. PYPs sponsors a variety of events throughout the year; some are family-oriented and some are intended specifically for parents.

Please mark your calendar and plan to join us as we continue our summer events! On Sunday, August 9, we will meet for a family pool party at the YMCA at Meadowmont (301 Old Barn Lane, Chapel Hill) from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. A snack will be provided. On Saturday, September 19, we will meet for a tailgate and the UNC football game (tickets will be $10 each).

If you have questions about Parents of Young Presbyterians or if you would like more information about the PYPs outings this summer, please contact Nancy Myer, Staff Associate for Children's Ministries.

Sign Up: Meal Service
for UPC Families

We are compiling a list of church members who would like to take a meal to families with newborns. We encourage you to sign up if you have not already done so.

Bringing home a newborn is an exciting time, but it also comes with anxiety and exhaustion. In those early months, having a meal delivered is a real gift. We would like to provide that for UPC families.

If you'd like to participate, please email Lou Pons at or call her at (919) 967-1809. You'll be contacted as needed to choose dates that work for you.

Punch on the Porch this Summer
We Still Need Volunteers!

Please join us this Sunday on the porch outside Vance Barron Hall after both services for fellowship over punch and cookies. Punch on the Porch runs from June through September.

We still need volunteers to serve as Punch on the Porch hosts in September! All supplies are provided. If you are able to volunteer in September, please click here to sign up online. Be sure to list your name and any friends or family members who will be serving with you.

It's an easy and fun way for families and/or your group of friends to volunteer and serve the church, and children of all ages really enjoy serving the punch and cookies. We hope you will join us!

Hearing Loop Installed

A hearing loop has been installed in the Sanctuary. Those with hearing aids should activate their t-coil and your hearing and understanding of the worship service should be enhanced.

Worshop: Family Faith Formation at Home

Parents are instrumental in shaping the faith and religion of children and youth, yet figuring out how to do that does not always seem easy. You are invited to attend a Family Faith Formation workshop that will give you some resources to help you experience faith at home as a family throughout the church year. Parents, grandparents and other caregivers of children are welcome to attend this workshop for adults.

The workshop will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 15, and will be facilitated by Nancy Myer, UPC's Staff Associate for Children's Ministries. From 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the workshop will be for parents and grandparents of children through second grade. From 1:00 - 3:30 p.m., the workshop will be for parents and grandparents of children third grade through high school. You will leave with ideas of practical ways to experience faith at home. Join other parents and caregivers from UPC as we explore together how to engage the faith of children at home.

Please click here to sign up for the session of your choice and to help us plan for supplies. If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Myer.

Sunday School Registration

Be sure to register your child for Sunday School! To register children and youth participants, please click here.

Be sure to register by Sunday, September 6, to help our teachers plan for the first day of Sunday School on September 13! Sunday School classes for three-year-olds through second grade and sixth-eighth graders will be in the lower level. Sunday School classes for third-fifth graders will meet upstairs, and High School Sunday School will meet in the Campus Ministry Lounge.

For questions about Sunday School programs related to Children and Youth, please contact Nancy Myer, Staff Associate for Children's Ministries.

Parking and Construction Update

Please remember that during the construction there will be no on-site parking at the church for staff or visitors. Staff members will be parking with permits at several locations downtown, and visitors are encouraged to utilize on-street and deck parking.

The demolition of the church-owned house at 212 East Rosemary Street signaled the beginning of site work to lay new sewer and utility lines, construct a new parking lot, and realign Robertson Lane-all as prelude to the construction of the new addition to the church. The unexpected need of a state permit before sewer and road changes can be made has caused a delay in construction. We will keep you updated as we learn more.

As construction continues, we will continue to post pictures of the progress on the UPC Facebook page. To view all the pictures, search #BuildUPC on Facebook. We encourage church members who post pictures or updates regarding church construction to use #BuildUPC. Stay connected!

Introducing Kirk Club

Kirk Club, for 4th and 5th graders, will meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m., starting on Wednesday, September 16.

Our time together will include snack, fellowship, recreation and a lesson tailored to the needs of this age group. These young people will learn how to approach their faith in new ways as they engage in thought-provoking discussions, wrestle with deeper questions and grow in community with one another. This program will prepare our 4th and 5th graders for the transition to middle school and Presbyterian Youth Connection by encouraging regular participation in a faith community and helping them understand how faith plays a part in everyday life. A registration link will be emailed to all parents of 4th-5th graders in mid-August. If you have questions about Kirk Club, please contact Kim McNeill, Staff Associate for Youth Ministries, or Nancy Myer, Staff Associate for Children's Ministries. Or call them at (919) 929-2102.
