"May I be Happy"
Sounds simple enough. But notice how often we attach the idea of being happy to something. We are happy when something good happens to us or when we receive something we want. But what happens if we did not have those "things" or those "circumstances." Could we still be happy?
Yoga teaches us how to become more aware and in tune with life's fluctuations. We become more aware of how we feel in our physical bodies, our mind, emotional body and spirit - and we notice that it is always changing. We have our ups and we have our downs. We want more of the "ups" wishing for them to remain and try like heck to avoid any of the "downs". But in doing this, the net result usually brings us suffering because we can't be happy when things aren't going right.
There IS a state happiness that is independent of any outside stuff.
If you watch babies or small children, they example this beautifully.
Happiness is a state found within and can be discovered in many ways - through meditation, practicing gratitude, and even yoga asana.
I found this link today from Krishna Das, titled "May I Be Happy". It's worth listening to.
