Anthony Umina is an accomplished dancer from Los Angeles, CA although the SF Bay Area is his "Salsa Home". He began his career with Joelle Maletis in 2006 at San Jose State University and within a year joined the famous world champion company Pretty Boys & Girls in San Jose, CA where he received the majority of his dance training. In 2009 Anthony took his first step into the bachata world partnering up with the world renowned Josie Neglia and Serena Cuevas. He also founded and directed San Diego's first ever bachata team, Bachatamante Dance Co., which helped to catapult the bachata community in SD. In 2011 Anthony moved to to Atlanta, Ga to pursue his Doctorate degree. Unable to quit dance Anthony relaunched his company as "Amante Dance Co." in Atlanta, Ga teaching Salsa on2, Bachata & Cha-Cha where he also opened up his own dance studio Rhythmz & Motion and directed Atlanta TOUCH for Island Touch Dance Academy.
Anthony has traveled to over 25 countries training, teaching, performing and social dancing with a STRONG emphasis on social dancing. He has trained and taken classes with the biggest and best names in the industry including Eddie Torres, Oliver Pineda, Frankie Martinez, Johnny Vasquez, Adolfo Indacochea, Marco Ferrigno and Teddy Olaso. He has also danced and performed with PB&G Pro, Majesty in Motion Pro, Alma Latina Pro & Proyecto Barrio Pro. Anthony holds several competitive titles including 2nd place at the 1st Annual Mayan Bachata World Championships, 1st place in London, UK, Along with several other titles throughout California. Most recently Anthony is a world champion taking first place with MG Dance Team in Bachata Pro Teams at the 2014 World Latin Dance Cup hosted by Albert Torres.
Amante Dance Co. & Anthony Umina have become known for their strength in teaching and social dance theory and methodologies. Anthony has spent the last 2-3 years training in true lead and follow technique and social dance theory and methodologies. These "Butter Theories" as Anthony likes to call it really allow for a smooth and seamless dance that allow each partner to feel as if they're floating on the dance floor!
