Earlier this week, the designer of the iconic, beloved midcentury flamingo lawn ornaments -- Don Featherstone -- died. He was 79. The tributes poured in. His hometown Massachusetts newspaper, The Sentinel & Enterprise wrote a lovely, lovely story.  The New York Times put his story on the front page. Rest in serene peace, Don Featherstone.

As part of our tribute, this newsletter spotlights some of our favorite flamingo related stories -- including the opportunity to upload photos of your flamingos.

In honor of Don Featherstone, we reactived our flamingo photo uploader, which we first featured in 2012.

NOS featherstone flamingo

NOS early production Featherstone flamingos
I wrote up this story after a visit to Retro Genie, one of my vintage shops, in Northampton, Mass. -- two summers ago. Jeannie had just acquired a fabulous set of NOS early production Don Featherstone flamingos!

flamingo in the army

Even in Afghanistan!
Back in 2011, we heard from Mariah -- a Retro Renovator / military police / paratrooper who was on her fifth tour of the Middle East! A touchstone to home: A pink flamingo she spotted there :)

Crazy in a good way,

And be sure to always Renovate Safe!
