Baltimore Oriole Relief Pitcher Kevin Gregg with Howard County Youth at

Camden Yards

On Friday, July 27th, HC DrugFree, along with our partners, the Howard County Police Department and the Department of Fire and Rescue Services, was pleased to take Howard County youth to Camden Yards for a seOrioles Logocond consecutive year for a unique and free opportunity to interact with Baltimore Orioles players and staff while learning about the dangers of using steroids and other appearance and performance-enhancing drugs.
The youth enjoyed dugout "chalk talks" about steriod drug abuse and nutrition, on-field exercise sessions with the training staff and time with relief pitcher Kevin Gregg. Each child received a signed player card and the Baltimore Orioles provided the youth and their families with tickets to the evening game. For a link to HC DrugFree's home page and the Channel 2 news coverage of the event, click here.
This event, sponsored by The Taylor Hooton Foundation and The Professional Baseball Trainers Association's PLAY (Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth) campaign was free to participants and transportation was provided by HC DrugFree. Refreshments were generously provided by David's Natural Market in the Wilde Lake Village Center and the Hickory Ridge Giant.

In partnership with Major League Baseball and the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), The Taylor Hooton Foundation is delivering these programs in all 30 of the Major League Ballparks across the continent this year. They are committed to educating everyone, youth and adults alike, about the life-threatening dangers of APEDs (Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drugs). Everyone needs to know about the growing problem and be able to recognize the signs of this latest wave of drug abuse. Life is a precious, valuable gift, too important to be sacrificed to drugs at the altar of sports or simply the desire to look good.
