Illinois Video & Audio Bill Passes in the House of Representatives
On April 22, the Illinois House of Representatives passed a bill that would allow nursing home residents and their families to place video or audio recording devices in their rooms. The bill now will go to the Senate for consideration.
Our attorneys support this bill and hope that it will cut down on instances of abuse and neglect in nursing homes. Additionally, the use of video and audio monitoring may help resolve disputes of suspected abuse and neglect. While nursing home residents or their families will be responsible for the cost of the monitoring equipment, the bill includes a provision allowing residents who cannot afford the equipment to apply for funds. $50,000.00 annually will be set aside for residents applying for financial assistance and the funds will be distributed based on a lottery system.
