Upcoming DAAD Deadline: Summer Academy in Leipzig for U.S.-American Faculty in German

Co-sponsored by the German-American Fulbright Commission and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) the Summer Academy aims to offer professional development in areas relevant to the teaching of German including German language, literature and culture as well as in professional and higher education. The seminar is based at interDaF at Leipzig University�s Herder Institute. The program language will be German.

The Academy will give an overview of current developments in German secondary and post-secondary education, including information on the German high school system, vocational training, recent German and European higher education reforms such as the Bologna process, and demographic developments and ethnic diversity in contemporary Germany. An additional focus of the program will be on teaching German as a Foreign Language, and participants will become acquainted with latest didactical methods in this field as developed and implemented at interDaF in Leipzig. The Academy will also include class room visits and opportunities to meet colleagues from other academic fields, various experts, students and administrators. An excursion program including a day trip to Berlin will complement the academic sessions. Finally, the program will highlight some of
the structures, regional priorities and current developments in this part of Eastern Germany.

Program dates are: May 30 - June 13, 2015

Call for Applications: Carson Fellowships

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society invites applications for its 2015�16 cohort of postdoctoral and senior fellows. The fellowship program, directed by Christof Mauch (LMU Munich) and Helmuth Trischler (Deutsches Museum) is designed to bring together excellent scholars who are working in environmental history and related disciplines.

The center will award fellowships to scholars from a variety of countries and disciplines. Applicants� research and writing should ideally pertain to the central theme of the RCC - transformations in environment and society. Research at the RCC is concerned with questions of the interrelationship between environmental and social changes, and in particular the reasons�the social, political, cultural, and environmental factors�behind these transformations.

The deadline for applications is January 31, 2015.

Fellowships at the Center for Global Cooperation Research

The K�te Hamburger Kolleg / Centre for Global Cooperation Research invites applications for fellowships roughly beginning in October 2015.

Fellows will join the Center for a period of six to twelve months. Fellowships include a working space in fully equipped offices and a competitive stipend commensurate with the applicant�s level of professional experience. Fellows are expected to contribute to the Center�s overall line of research and embrace its inter- and multidisciplinary environment. Regular attendance at the Center is thus required, implying residency in Duisburg or the Rhine-Ruhr region in most cases.

Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences (including social psychology), but may also be granted to scholars in economics, law and the natural sciences. In the latter case, the proposed research project must not require laboratory facilities and should relate to the humanities and social sciences, in particular questions of global cooperation.

The application deadline is January 4th, 2015.
