Amazing Tails:

Making Connections with PAWS

Kilo Gerres, PAWS Therapy Companion

"Last week, I was asked to bring Kilo to Circuit Court to be with a 6-year-old girl who was the victim of sexual abuse. It was not known if she would have to testify or not, but regardless Kilo and I went into the courthouse for the first time and hung out with the girl while she waited for her turn to tell her story.  She interacted with Kilo the whole time we were there waiting with her.  Luckily for her, she did not have to testify, and although she was anxious that morning, she said that she really had fun with Kilo."

Shining Stars:
Mary, Abby, & Callie Perno
Mary & Abby Perno, PAWS Therapy Team

Mary Perno and Abby, a PAWS Master's Certified Therapy Team, joined us way back in our early days and have been reliable, consistent visitors to this very day! They were one of the earliest teams to be invited to the ACE unit at Christiana Care and expanded their repertoire to other units in the hospital. Active as a PAWS training assistant, as a PAWS board member for two terms, in community events, and as a productive committee member for many PAWS' major events, Mary has brought new ideas and great stability to PAWS. Callie, a second golden retriever, joined PAWS with Mary a few years ago. This terrific trio has made hundreds of visits and brought comfort and happiness to thousands of patients and veterans and people in need.

PAWS is so lucky to have had the privilege of knowing Mary and her sweet pups and will be missing them greatly as they leave town to move to South Carolina. We wish you all the best with your move and hope you keep sharing your pet therapy expertise when you get settled.
