January is always an exciting time of the year in the life of the church! It is the start of a new year, which brings exceptional opportunities. January is particularly exciting for members of the Laity who serve in leadership. It is the time when some will say "Goodbye," after having served for a period, while others will say "Hello" and are welcomed to new places of servant leadership. This new beginning gives us--the church--the opportunity to thank those who have served, as we affirm and celebrate those who will embark on their journey as ministry leaders.
On Consecration Sunday, January 17, we will acknowledge and offer blessings upon our 2016 officers and leaders during the 11:15 a.m. worship service. I invite all Chairs and Vice-Chairs of Administrative Committees, Divisions, and Ministries to join us in the reserved seating area and experience a time of dedication to service at the altar. Your presence and participation are important as we prepare for Stewardship Sunday. The congregation will have an opportunity to see the leaders and join the clergy in offering prayers of thanksgiving and guidance on your behalf. I encourage you today to make every effort to be present. Something special happens when the "saints" come together to pray.
If you are not in a leadership role at this time, you should also make plans to be in worship to support and affirm those who will give their time and talent to effect ministry this year. I know that they will be grateful to know that you are among those who will commit to keeping them lifted up in prayer as they seek to serve God's Kingdom and more specifically the Cascade United Methodist Church. God has blessed us with wonderful and spirit-filled worship these first two Sundays of the year. I expect that this Sunday will be no different. See you there!
