"
If you surrender to the wind, you can ride it." ~Toni Morrison
Our hearts extend to those near and far affected by storm Erika and other unfortunate news that continues to remind us of the need to love and support one another with the precious time we all have. Sending love and healing to our readers who are in emotional or physical pain, and those who are outside of our physical connection.
Surrendering...
Sometimes all you need to do is surrender to what is, allow life to take its own course, and stepping out of your own way. When you trust that all flows with ease, you may just find yourself falling into peace and life falling into place (or perhaps adjusting to a new way).
Easier said than done for sure in many cases and for many people...and this is not to say that sitting back and doing nothing will lead to great accomplishments. Any goal, from developing a healthier pattern to resolving something from the past, requires dedication and conscious mindful effort. However, there are many situations where life flows more smoothly when you surrender to the moment rather than trying to fight it.
If you're feeling up to experimenting with surrender, here are some key steps to practice falling into peace and riding the winds of life. Practice these steps when feeling somewhat calm and then implement when life becomes a little more stressful. See if you notice any difference with how you handle stressful situations compared to when you don't surrender...
1. Silently repeat positive affirmations to yourself (Eg. I am worthy; I am smart; I can do it, etc.). Change is more likely to happen with gentle, loving, assurance.
2. Be grateful for all we take for granted (Eg. Clean water, clothes, support of friends/family), and also for the tiniest shifts you see within yourself, those around you, or your environment (Wow, no red lights on the way to work! Or My boss gave me a compliment!)
3. Focus on what's within your control in this very moment, each moment. (Eg. I can't get to everything on my to-do list today, but I'll focus on the first task right now.)
If you try this out, please let us know your feedback! Like anything, we would not expect a drastic change with one practice and most positive outcomes will take practice over a period of time.
