Commons Connections
|
January 2015
|
I'm sure you are aware of the violence that has plagued some of our Chicago neighborhoods in recent months. Some of those communities are served by Chicago Commons, like West Humboldt Park. Despite the violence, there are sanctuaries in the neighborhood providing resources that enable the community and its residents to thrive.
For example, Chicago Commons has been an active community partner in West Humboldt Park for nearly 25 years operating two child development centers (Taylor Center for New Experiences and Nia Family Center) as well as our Center for Working Families. In West Humboldt Park alone, we offer more than 200 people education and employment services. Of all the communities Commons has a presence in, we have the largest programmatic footprint in West Humboldt Park.
Commons has a long, successful history serving under resourced neighborhoods. We will continue to invest and grow our programming to fit the needs of the community. I hope that we can continue to count on the tremendous support of friends like you as we carry out the mission of Chicago Commons.
Sincerely,
Edgar Ramirez
President and CEO

In December, Sharon Shelton, a supervisor from Commons' Sr. Services Home Care program, won the supervisor of the year award for our region at the Illinois Governor's Conference on Aging & Disability!
