This Week at Pellissippi State

A Message from Dr. Anthony Wise
Faculty and Staff,

I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing holiday weekend and a fantastic start to the semester. I appreciate the great effort required every semester to get more than 10,000 students into hundreds of classes across five campuses in the two counties we serve. I am grateful for the role that each and every person here plays in those processes critical to the success of our students.

We are at a point in the semester when many of our students are particularly vulnerable. Those who've been successful at making an early connection at the College are much more likely to persist and succeed than those who have not. I am going to spend some time this week asking our students if they've made that success connection (see what I did there?) and if they know where to turn to for help. I would ask you to take just a little time to do the same.

We've always been a community college that has taken great pride in our ability to help individual students reshape their lives and change the arc of their stories. I hope by checking in with a number of our students in the next week or so we can help get them pointed in the right direction before too much time passes this semester. I thank you for your consideration of this request and all you do for our students, the College, and the communities we serve.

L. Anthony Wise Jr.
President

Civic Engagement Week kicks off service year
Thursday kicks off a week of celebrations across all five campuses for Civic Engagement Week. Civic Engagement Week 2015, which is celebrated on campuses around the country, launches a year of community service opportunities. The Pellissippi State activities are hosted by the Service-Learning program, and the theme is "Wellness and Sustainable Living in Appalachia."

The College's Civic Engagement Week connects with the book chosen for this academic year's Common Academic Experience, Jeff Biggers' "The United States of Appalachia." The week focuses on encouraging East Tennesseans to take good care of themselves and of the environment.
