CHIA Ballot & Online Voting Opens this Friday
It's CHIA Election time!  Now is the opportunity to vote for the incoming CHIA Board of Directors and AHIMA Delegates. As a voting member (only Active, Senior, Graduate and Honorary CHIA members are eligible. Student members are ineligible), you elect the CHIA leaders who will influence the strategic direction of the California Health Information Association over the next few years.

Eligible members will be emailed a ballot announcement this Friday, January 15. Look for the email to access the link for your online voting.
 
Voting opens Friday, January 15, and closes Tuesday, February 16 at 4:00pm.

CHIA Recognition Award Nominations - Due Feb 28
Nominate a colleague for a CHIA Recognition Award, which recognizes those who make a difference in the HIM profession. The awards honor exemplary service, reward contributions that build the HIM knowledge base, recognize excellence in preparing future HIM professionals, and encourage new talent and leadership.
Nominations are due by February 28. 
CHIA Student Scholarship Applications - Due Mar 1
CHIA is committed to helping members complete their educational goals and enable them to successfully embark on their HIM career path. CHIA Scholarships provide financial assistance to:
  • CHIA Student Members enrolled in accredited HIA/HIT programs
  • CHIA Active Members enrolled in HIA/HIT or Masters Degree program in HIM pursuing a specialty credential or a higher HIM credential than they currently hold

CCHIIM Approves an Extension of the
Deadline to Earn and Record ICD-10 CEUs
CCHIIM has extended the deadline to earn and record the required number of ICD-10 CEUs for RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CCS-P, and CHPS holders to March 31, 2016. As required by the current policy, holders of these credentials will be placed in an inactive status on their original deadline date of either December 31, 2015 or January 31, 2016, but will still be able to earn and report CEUs until March 31, 2016 and avoid credentials being revoked until this extension date.

AHIMA Releases New State Advocacy Toolkit 
The AHIMA State Advocacy Council announces the publication of AHIMA's State Advocacy Toolkit. This toolkit has a wealth of resources for CSAs, including examples of best practices, to aid in the development and execution of your state advocacy strategy. Created at the request of the House of Delegates, the toolkit is intended for State Advocacy Leaders and others who lead your state efforts. This is an indispensable resource as you continue to encourage your members to embrace advocacy at both the state and national levels. 
Individual's Right to Access Health Information Under HIPAA
The Department of Health and Human Services has issued a fact sheet and the first in a series of topical Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to clarify an individual's core right to obtain access to their health information under HIPAA regulations. The first set of materials may be found on the Office for Civil Right's website. Over the past several months, the HHS Office for Civil Rights has also undertaken a full redesign of the HHS website. Check out the more responsive, user-friendly website here.
