NEWS FROM "THE TOP"
FROM JEFF BENEDICT, OWNER OF AQ
Hi Friends!
Happy New Year!

As each New Year begins, most of us make resolutions that we have the best of intentions of keeping...and then don't. Would we do better if we called them goals and worked out a little more detailed plan on how to complete them?
We are making some plans to help us meet some new goals.  One is to change out newsletter to an online magazine format with more content from all of AQ and our customers.
We hope you will find these changes beneficial.  Where you think we could improve, please let us know.  You just might have the idea we've been looking for!
So, please lean back, put your feet up, grab a warm beverage that brings you good cheer and enjoy your first AQ Online Magazine of 2016.

Kind regards,
Jeff Benedict, President/Owner

"THE STORIES BEHIND THE QUILTS"
CLARENCE AND JEFF BENEDICT WITH QUILTER, JULIA MCQUEEN
Meet Julia McQueen, from Oxford Michigan, an amazing upbeat woman who is so full of life! When meeting people who are as full of life as Julia is, we are truly inspired to ask what their story is.
Julia grew up around quilting; her grandmother Marjorie Bussard was a quilter.  "I just love what she did", Julia shared.  "After my second son was born, I wanted to do what she did, so I took a quilting class. One thing led to another and here I am today, doing quilting as a business!"
She then told me the story of how she got her quilting machine. Her husband came home with a Harley one day and she was totally ticked off.   She was steamed for a month and it just ate at her!  She said, "I thought and thought about it.  I then went to a show and there I gave Clarence Benedict a deposit on a machine.   I went home and  told my husband what I had done and that he needed to figure out how HE was going to pay for the remainder of what was owed on the machine."   Sheepishly, he said okay and did in fact pay for the machine.
As she explains it, he doesn't make money with his guitars, guns, and motorcycle.  She told him that she shops more wisely than he does since her machine has paid for itself time and again.  Wise move Julia!
While Julia does work at a hospital part time, her quilting business allows her to work part time and really enjoy life. Julia says, "My quilting business allows me to meet wonderful creative people. My own work in quilting allows me to be creative as well!
Julia is passing on the legacy of quilting to her grandsons, Connor, Duncan, and Ben. Duncan made and quilted his first quilt just before his 5th birthday. Julia entered it in a show and he won a ribbon!  Connor helped to quilt a Christmas quilt for his Mom while still in preschool. Even Ben the youngest has made and quilted a cover for his IPad. They are learning design and enjoying what they make. Julia just beams when she talks about quilting and her grandsons!

What a funny and inspiring story!  Do you have a story that you would like to share?
Do you know of someone who has done amazing things in quilting and have a story to share? If so, please contact Fena at  [email protected]  and I will interview you or the person you suggest and share your story.

Pinky's Story

Did you know that all INNOVA machines used to be pink? Did you know that we take trade-ins on all brands of longarm quilting machines?

Once in a great while we get an INNOVA traded in. Recently we helped our customer upgrade her system to a bigger INNOVA. It was so easy! We helped her order the new 22" Lightning Stitch sewing head and parts to enlarge her table. Pinky is in our Michigan showroom and ready for her new owner to pick her up for just $6,495. She's a 18" INNOVA from 2008 and comes with a brand new frame. She won't last long, so give us a call - or check out our used machine list on the website here.
