Greetings from OPQC!

Thank you for your continued involvement with the Ohio Perinatal Quality Collaborative. We would like to engage all stakeholders interested in our projects, to promote current events regarding maternal and infant health, to highlight community, statewide, and nationwide partnerships, and to prompt discussion around quality improvement activities and best practices.

OPQC Projects
Progesterone Project
The OPQC Progesterone Project is engaging the Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) and the five Medicaid Managed Care Providers along with its OB Outpatient Clinics to improve the identification and care of women at risk for preterm birth. Furthermore, as the project spreads, OPQC is developing a partnership with the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers (OACHC) Federally Qualified Health Centers to identify additional at-risk women.

NAS Project
The NAS Project has entered a new project phase: Orchestrated Testing . Last year, OPQC NAS sites were successful in reducing length of stay and length of opiate treatment among babies identified with NAS.

During Phase 2 of the project, teams are working with one another to test different combinations of interventions and practices to determine which of these methods have the greatest impact on further reducing length of stay and length of opiate treatment for babies with NAS. A collaborative Learning Lab model is currently being implemented to foster sharing among project teams.

NICU Graduates Project
OPQC's newest project, the NICU Graduates Project, held its first design meetings in September and October.  Funded by the Ohio Department of Medicaid, this two-year project aims to improve the transition from NICU to home for infants with specific technology dependence.  OPQC will be working with the six Ohio Children's Hospital Association (OCHA) hospitals to undertake this project.  Thus far, three sites (Rainbow Babies' and Children's Hospital, Nationwide Children's Hospital, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital) have been invited and agreed to participate. You can read more about the project on our website .

Sustain Phase Projects
OPQC continues to engage with hospital sites around Ohio through  its Sustain Phase Projects:
Sustain Phase Project sites continue to collect data and receive data feedback on a quarterly basis. OPQC Sustain Phase Projects  continue to maintain their gains.

State-Based Perinatal Quality Collaboratives (IPHIS)
Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, OPQC is continuing work with the Ohio Department of Health - Vital Statistics to implement workshops and promote resources around the Integrated Perinatal Health Information System (IPHIS) and Birth Registry Accuracy.

In 2016, through a series of virtual office hours, online webinars, and in-person regional workshops, OPQC and ODH-VS will offer educational resources to birth registry abstractors and hospital staff. These trainings will offer the opportunity to discuss individual challenges in medical record documentation of IPHIS variables and current issues in perinatal health that impact how IPHIS measures newborn and maternal outcomes.  Please see below for the schedule of IPHIS webinars and virtual office hours (click to register):
You can find more information on the OPQC website. We're l ooking forward to improving IPHIS even more in 2016!
