Brooklyn Generation School Students Participate in ACE Mentoring Program

Groups of BGS students worked with the ACE mentoring program for several months this semester to develop real workplace projects in the industries of architecture, construction, and engineering. The ACE mission is to engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction through mentorship and to support their continued advancement in a specific industry. The program culminated in a presentation ceremony of the students' projects.

where some students presented their  projects.

Michele Hill, Director of College and Career at BGS, said about the ceremony
"While attending the ACE Mentoring final presentations I was amazed at the work that these students have put in this year. These young people are amazing! Their presentation skills surpass those of most adults.  From my seat our future is looking very bright!!"

West Generation Academy Students Blog from In the Workplace

One of the highlights of our internship program at West Generation Academy, is the blog that each student created to document their experiences. From the nerves and excitement before they started, to the lessons they learn along the way, to their feelings of satisfaction for a job well done, the blogs are a great way to understand the highs and lows of a first job experience for many. These blogs will serve as not only a great way for people to see what students' internships were like and a way for them to preserve their experiences, but will help future participants understand what to expect. The blogs will live on and will be added to by future groups.

Brooklyn Generation School's
College Tour a Success!

On May 4th and May 5th Brooklyn Generation's College Prep Academy and Parent Engagement Center teamed up with the Community School initiative to present a two day, four college tour. At 5:45 am on Monday, May 4, 23 students, 18 family members and 4 staff set off on the Journey upstate.

The group toured SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo, Buffalo State and Daemon College.  They ate in the cafeteria, toured campuses, met with BGS alumni who attend the colleges, received valuable information from admissions representatives and got to know each other a little better. Michele Hill, Director of College and Career at BGS created a College Information Scavenger Hunt for each campus to help the group structure their research and questions. Some parents on the trip had been reluctant to consider the possibility of their child going away to college.

After the trip many of those same parents said they were more open to the
idea. Experience is the best teacher!
