Vaquero Criminal Activity Follow-Up
re: June 10, 2015 activity

After meeting with our community's police department, Keller PD, and representatives from the Vaquero HOA and Club, Town Staff felt an additional communication would be helpful in clearing up any miscommunications and making sure all Vaquero residents knew the details surrounding a June 10 incident in which a burglary occured from a resident's garage.

Below you will find the facts as obtained from our police chief:

  • 06/10/2015; 10:05 pm dispatched to home on Navasota Cove
  • Homeowner noticed the garage was left open and interior light on overnight and three bicycles were taken from the garage.
  • Discovered by exterior camera, that 3 men entered the garage at approximately 4:30 a.m.
  • One of three suspects had something covering his face. One appeared to be talking on a cell phone. Two (of the three) appeared to be holding something in their hand, (b-b gun, pellet gun, or a handgun). Camera did not reveal any descriptive identification of what they were holding to aid in the investigation.
  • On June 11, 2015 at 10:00 am KPD contacted homeowner.
  • Received serial numbers on all three bicycles and entered in the National/State Computer and Pawn Shop Database.
  • On June 11, 2015 between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 pm, conducted neighborhood canvas, speaking to several homeowners and/or house managers. Searched immediate area for any other evidence.
  • Bicycles may have been located on Vaquero golf course driving range and returned to the homeowners.

Keller Police will be increasing patrols in the Vaquero neighborhoods and also calling residents should they see any security risks such as open entry doors, garage doors, gates, valuables in unlocked cars, etc.  Please know that your Westlake police, staff, and Town officials take these incidents very seriously and this occurence remains under investigation.  It is important for our residents to feel safe in their community.  Always remember to call 9-1-1 any time you experience a crime, suspect criminal activity, or possibly witness something that does not seem "quite right." Our police personnel want you to know that it is never a problem to call  9-1-1; for any reason or suspicion.

While we enjoy one of the lowest crime rates of any DFW town/city, a community of our type is sadly targeted from time to time. We appreciate the great work of our police force both in Vaquero and around all areas of Westlake.  Their presence along the roadways and in our neighborhoods sends the signal to those passing through or watching, that Westlake is heavily patroled and they are not welcome here.

Your efforts to help police deter crimes in our area are also appreciated.  Please remember to remove valuables from sight in cars and lock doors, secure the outside perimeters of your home including garage doors, windows, gates, and back doors, activate security systems and cameras - all proven efforts to help deter any criminal activity.

Addtionally, there are two services provided free of charge by our police department.  One is a Home Security Survey and the other is the Vacation Watch Program (form) where a police officer may visit your home each day while you're away! The latter service is available to residents who will be away from home for at least three days, with a maximum of 21 days. More details can be found on our Police Services website page.

Should you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact Town Manager Tom Brymer via email or direct at 817-490-5720, Assistant Town Manager Amanda DeGan, 817-490-5715, or Police Chief Mike Wilson, 817- 743-4500.
