Dependency seems to be running rampant.  So many people are dependent on the government or the good heartedness of others for their very existence and seem content to have it happen that way.  Even those of us on the providing end tend to feel that giving more and more fish will solve the problem.

Seems like we should be focusing on the "Teaching a man to fish" aspect allowing folks to learn to take care of themselves and control their own lives and destiny.

Don't take me wrong, folks need to be fed.  Seems like the answer should be feeding just long enough to teach for long term success. Those unwilling to learn may need what Dr. Morris Massey called "A significant emotional event" to make them realize they need to do so.
