District A CIP Meeting

Monday, February 16, 2015

6:30 - 8:00 PM

Spring Woods High School

2045 Gessner Drive

Houston, Texas 77080

The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) meeting for District A will take place on February 16, 2015.  CIP meetings are held annually by each district to discuss the ongoing and upcoming CIP projects.  The CIP includes large, long-term projects such as: parks, buildings, roads, and libraries. These projects do not include day-to-day maintenance of streets.  This meeting provides an opportunity to receive your valuable input about what projects you would like to see in District A.

Please submit your CIP requests by emailing districta@houstontx.gov or by calling the District A office at 832-393-3010 so we can submit your requests to the proper departments before this meeting.  You can also submit your requests in person at the meeting.

Need A Street Light?

Keeping you and your family safe from crime is one of my top priorities.  Unfortunately when there are dark streets in a neighborhood, it makes it more appealing for criminals.

If you know of a street in District A that might need a street light, you can apply for one here.  In most cases, the cost for a new street light is a one time fee of $200.  Since your protection is important, if you apply for a street light by March 2, 2015 (and if subsequently approved by the City of Houston), I will do my best to allocate funds to pay for the new street light.  After you apply, please send a copy of the application to my office so that I can allocate the funds:

Send a copy of the application to:

If you have a street light that is out, please report it here.

City of Houston Boards and Commissions

Are you interested in volunteering to serve on a board/commission for the City of Houston?  There are many boards/commissions in the City that need specialized expertise in certain fields.  Others just require active members who are willing to serve their city.  Please visit the following website for more information: http://www.houstontx.gov/boards/

If you are interested in serving, please contact my office to let us know your interests.

Proposed High Speed Rail

I recently attended a meeting regarding the proposed high speed rail that will tentatively have routes that will go through parts of District A.  City Council will not be able to vote on whether or not to allow the high speed rail, as the state and federal governments have jurisdiction over this matter; however I am concerned about the effect of the proposed routes.  As such I wrote a letter to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to express my concerns.

Many of you asked about the timeline for this project.  Please see the following timeline. Although the Environmental Impact Statement by the FRA is still a long time away from being released, I will continue to monitor the progress.

Ad Hoc Charter Review Committee

An Ad Hoc Charter Review Committee was recently formed by City Council to review potential revisions to the City Charter. These revisions could include amending the city's term limits, utilizing Executive Session, amending obsolete administrative items, and amendments to the revenue cap on the city's property taxes.  These revisions and other potential amendments will be discussed at upcoming meetings.  Any amendment voted on by City Council would likely go on the November 2015 ballot for voter approval, so I hope that you will either attend the upcoming meetings or watch them on television/online so that you are informed.

Upcoming Meetings:
Tuesday, February 10, 6:30 PM
Thursday, February 26, 9:00 AM
Tuesday, March 10, 6:30 PM
Tuesday, March 31, 9:00 AM

All meetings will take place in the City Council Chamber located on the second floor at 901 Bagby Street, Houston, Texas 77002.  You can watch online at http://www.houstontx.gov/htv/
