Long-Time Volunteer for GBMC's Board of Lady Managers Retires

by Anne Perry, member of The Board of Lady Managers &

Second Presbyterian Church

Coila Seiber retired in June after many faithful years serving The Presbyterian Board of Lady Managers, an auxiliary group

Coila Seiber

of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). During her tenure as a representative from First & Franklin Presbyterian Church, Ms. Seiber had served as the Board's president, chaplain for the last five years and recording secretary since 2002.

A diminutive woman who is now in her 90s -

Ms. Seiber's fierce dedication, sense of commitment and pioneering spirit enabled the Board to financially support special patient services at GBMC for many years.  The Board was established in 1877 to serve the Presbyterian Eye, Ear and Throat Charity Hospital, once located on East Baltimore Street.  Then, as now, several member churches of the Presbytery of Baltimore contributed to the Board's efforts to endow and offer support and free medical services to needy individuals seeking medical care. Churches who now contribute to the Board include Second Presbyterian Church, Roland Park Presbyterian, First and Franklin Presbyterian, Faith Presbyterian, Churchville Presbyterian and First Church of Bel Air.

Prior to serving the Board, Ms. Seibert worked as a medical secretary in Baltimore.  She retired from the University of Maryland Surgical research Center in 1998 and began to actively volunteer with the Board.  To commemorate Ms. Seiber's 17 years of service, a retirement luncheon was held last month at GBMC and a special donation was made in her honor to the Hoover Rehabilitation Services.

The Board of Lady Managers actively invites additional representation from churches in the Presbytery of Baltimore to consider joining in this work to broaden community representation and expand this vital, long-standing, mission opportunity.  For more information please contact Margie Middleton, Board Chairman, at 410.292.7630.
