The Steering Cabinet and the Interim General Presbyter Search Committee are delighted to announce the appointment of TE Mary Gaut as Interim General Presbyter.
Mary will officially begin her duties with the Presbytery of Baltimore on July 15; she is under contract with the presbytery for one year. Mary comes to this work after serving on many levels in our presbytery. She served as pastor of Maryland Presbyterian Church for 19 years and, while pastoring that congregation, served on numerous committees, commissions and entities of the presbytery.
In addition to leading the congregation of Maryland Presbyterian Church, Mary also served in the capacity of interim for five other congregations of the Presbytery of Baltimore. And, she served on the team that helped to develop Ministry Group outcomes as our new vision was implemented.
In applying to be the Interim General Presbyter, Mary said:
The Vision and Ministry plan of Baltimore Presbytery offers a hopeful, bold and uniquely relational way for the presbytery to move into the future as a witness to the Gospel and agents of God's compassion, peace, justice and hope. But the vision is not yet deeply rooted in the heart of the presbytery and the details are still being worked out. Meanwhile, demographic trends, financial challenges and other cultural forces continue to impact the presbytery and its congregations. Many infrastructure issues (including communications, finances, clarification on ministry groups etc.) must be addressed so that the presbytery can be effective in the present and ready for the visionary leadership a new GP will provide.
The Steering Cabinet and Interim General Presbyter Search Committee are pleased that this role will be occupied by a colleague in ministry with vision, passion and a deep commitment to PCUSA. We are confident that Mary Gaut will serve us well. Please join me in welcoming her to this ministry among us.
In Christ,
Daris Bultena
