Ready or not, here comes May!  And May means proms, graduations, and Mother's Day.  Also with May comes a full calendar of opportunities to praise and serve God!

We'll celebrate Max Boyd's graduation on May 2, and Matt Feldewerth's graduation on May 16.

On May 9, we'll celebrate Mother's Day as we thank God for our mothers, and for the women who've had a motherly influence in our lives.

Immediately after our worship on May 16 we'll take a few minutes to conduct our annual meeting.  Then we'll all make sandwiches for Gateway 180 to distribute to those experiencing homelessness.  And right after making sandwiches?  We'll enjoy a potluck salad dinner...so start planning now to bring your most popular salad to share.

Let's enjoy the month of May, as we praise and serve God.
Priming the Pump

... a little more like Miss Mildred...

We've all heard the admonitions: bloom where you're planted, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.  And, of course we know the commandment against coveting those things that belong to our neighbors.

But still we struggle to appreciate the lives we have, lest we become jealous or envious of the lives of others.  We want to be grateful for our life situations...but it requires strength and resolve to fend off envy.

Several years back, former Under Secretary of the Interior John C. Whitaker told of an 85-year-old woman named Mildred that he'd met in a small Nova Scotia fishing village.  Every summer, Whitaker apparently visited the fishing village, which boasted a winter population of two...and a summer population of nine.

Miss Mildred once admitted to Whitaker that she didn't even know where Washington was and asked him how many people lived there.  When told that Washington had a population of two million, Miss Mildred pondered, "Think of that, two million people living so far away from everything."

Obviously, Miss Mildred was quite content with her life in the small fishing village.  She saw no reason to be envious or jealous of those who lived in the thriving metropolis of Washington.

I suppose we could all stand to be a little more like Miss Mildred.

No water today...just priming the pump...

Worship With Us In May
For more info about Worship at New Song, contact Rex Loy, rexkloy@gmail.com or 636-751-4024.

During this month, Rex's sermons will continue to focus upon what some consider to be "old fashioned" words.  He'll direct our thoughts to such terms as wisdom, stewardship, motherhood  and commitment.   The words may seem old fashioned, but they provide a solid foundation for our faith.

May is a busy month! Please join us for worship and communion whenever you can!

Our Annual Meeting

May 16

On May 16 our congregation will have a brief annual meeting immediately following worship to select officers and to accept a new budget.  If you have suggestions as to possible candidates for secretary and treasurer, please text those names to either Rex (636.751.4024) or Rob Hardin (314.723.4939).  Those wishing to increase their financial pledges or who have questions about making offerings and contributions to New Song should contact Kristin Umbenhaur, kmhurst7@yahoo.com.

Salad Potluck

May 16

We've got a busy Saturday scheduled for May 16 (worship, meeting, & mission), but the day's festivities will culminate in a relaxing/delightful salad dinner!  What better way to celebrate spring than with fresh fruits and veggies?  Please bring your favorite salad to share...worship, meetings and missions make for a hungry congregation.  Please email Twila, twilaloy@gmail.com with questions or if you would like to provide drinks, paper goods, etc.

Trivia Night for CAE

On March 27th, a group of us volunteered at Center for Autism Education's annual Trivia Night.  We were proud to be a part of such a fun and successful evening where folks came together to play trivia and raise money to benefit CAE's pre-school, school, and adult day program.

Celebrating Graduates

Saturday, May 2 and Saturday May 16

Graduating from High School is a huge stepping stone in life.  This year New Song Church is pleased to honor two special high school graduates.

Max Boyd, son of Andi Boyd and Dave Boyd, is graduating from Fort Zumwalt West High School.  Max played saxophone in the marching band and has also shared his musical gifts by playing at New Song.  He is going to attend the University of Missouri in the fall. We will honor Max in worship on May 2.

Matt Feldewerth, son of Karen and Don Feldewerth, will graduate from Parkway Central High School before heading south to Murray State University in Kentucky this fall.  Matt is on the Lacrosse team at Central and also enjoys hunting, fishing and golf.  We'll celebrate Matt's graduation on May 16 in worship.

We ask God to bless these young men as they take this next step in their lives.

Congrats to:

Congratulations to Max Boyd who received the award for Outstanding Senior at his recent Band Awards Banquet!

Congratulations to Jake Boyd who lettered twice in band this year.
