 Celebrating Gordon County
Navigator Team Leader Spotlight
When asked "Why a Girl Scout troop, when you are the mother of a son with a disability?"; she replied "It was what our community needed so I decided to give it a go. I enjoy it as much as the girls! "
That's what Navigator Teams are all about, collaborating to offer more opportunities for children impacted by disabilities. They collaborate with existing programs to provide inclusion for all or create new programs designed for children with special needs. This allows all to participate and therefore acquire the skills they need to move into more inclusive community settings.

Featuring Jen Wilson
Hi! I'm Jen Wilson Loggins and it has been a pleasure to serve as a Supporting Parent and Navigator with P2P for the past 2 years. My oldest son, Grey, is now 9 years old and is a thriving, happy little boy who loves animals, reading, and Pokemon. He was diagnosed with classic autism when he had just turned 3 years old. My youngest son, Grant, was 8 months old at the time. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed and didn't know where to start researching how to help him or how to find the resources our family needed.
I was first introduced to P2P by my son's preschool, Challenged Child and Friends in Gainesville. I LOVE the "Road Map to Success" on the website and have called to receive support and referrals. I am also thankful for the webinars and parent training opportunities.
Why did you choose
to volunteer with P2P?
I remember how lost and alone I felt when my son was first diagnosed with autism. I don't want anyone else to feel that way. I work as a counselor part-time outside the home and wanted to volunteer a listening ear and a heart that could relate to the many emotions parents feel as we raise our special children. I have made many lasting friendships as a P2P Supporting Parent. I receive just as much as I give. I love connecting with parents who also have a child with special needs.
What is your dream for your community,
as it relates to disability?
My husband and I dream of more supportive employment and housing opportunities for adults with disabilities in our community.
We dream of starting a farm and providing job training and employment for individuals with a variety of different abilities.

Community Engagement Manager at P2P

is my passion. I love to educate those in
our community about all the great ways
P2P helps families"
I love my role at Parent to Parent of Georgia as the Community Engagement Manager. I have been working for P2P for almost 3 years and love helping families impacted by disabilities. One of my duties involves advocacy and I am a registered lobbyist for P2P. During the legislative session, I am at the Capitol several times per week, meeting with legislators or meeting families and showing them the ropes of advocacy with their legislators. Whether training individuals and family members to advocate effectively or meeting with legislators to educate them on issues, I find great pleasure in empowering others to make a difference!
Assisting families with more involved issues and challenges is something I enjoy as well. Having raised a son with serious challenges related to autism, I know first-hand what it is like and love to share resources and knowledge that can make life easier for families.
Supporting the work we do with Navigator teams and equipping volunteers with leadership skills is something I enjoy about my job. I also like being involved in outreach and love educating the community about all the great ways P2P helps families.
Parent to Parent of Georgia has a passionate, knowledgeable and caring staff and I am honored to work alongside so many amazing people who make a difference every day. I LOVE coming to work every day and being a part of serving families impacted by disabilities or special health care needs.
