Oswego County Sheriff Moe Todd, Re-Elected Executive Committee Vice-Chairman

Eighteen Sheriffs and one Undersheriff attended a meeting of the Executive Committee recently held at the former Union Station in downtown Albany. Use of the alternate meeting site, arranged for by Sheriff Bud York, was necessitated by the fact that a Civil School was underway at our Elk Street offices. The meeting was chaired by our President Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour and our Executive Committee Chairman Genesee County Sheriff Gary Maha. We were pleased to have Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn join us via our teleconference program, a service we hope to expand in the near future. At the meeting Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd was re-elected to the position of Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee. Among the topics discussed by the group were: the spread to New York of the problem of  drivers' refusing to lower their window at DWI checkpoints; the need to institute medical co-pays for jail inmates; Sovereign Citizen issues; the rising incidence of citizens recording officers as they perform their duties; and State Police deployment matters.

Sheriffs Attend Joint Terrorism Task Force Briefing with FBI Director James Comey

Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois and Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith recently attended a Joint Terrorism Task Force Briefing in New York City with FBI Director James Comey.

Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike's Article Published in NYSAC News

 An article by Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike, Sheriffs Marine Patrols Protect and Serve on the Water, was published in the Spring/Summer Issue of NYSAC News, the publication of the NYS Association of Counties. The article points our that "Sheriffs in 40 of the counties outside of New York City operate Marine Patrol Units on navigable waterways in their counties" and explains the close cooperative relationship between the Sheriffs and the Bureau of Marine Services of the NYSOPRHP. Please click here to read the full article.

Sullivan County Sheriff Michael Schiff Spearheads Drug Probe that Leads to Arrest of New York Heroin Ring

Orleans County Sheriff's Deputy Recognized as Safariland SAVE #1,912

Orleans County Sheriff's Deputy James A. DeFilipps was inducted into the "Safariland Group Saves Club" which recognizes individuals who, during the line of duty, experienced a life-threatening incident where their body armor made by The Safariland Group contributed to saving their lives.

Deputy DeFilipps was recognized for an incident that occurred on March 21st, 2015, shortly after 3:00 A.M. Deputy DeFilipps was confronted by an armed suspect who shot DeFilipps twice with a .45 caliber handgun, both rounds striking him in his torso which was protected by his bulletproof vest. Deputy DeFilipps returned fire killing the suspect. Stacey Petyak with the Safariland Group and Josh Muskat with United Uniform Company presented Deputy DeFilipps with a plaque recognizing him as Save #1,912.
