We are looking forward to seeing our members, friends and supporters at vtTA's Annual Sunset Dinner Cruise on August 27 . We'll board the Spirit of Ethan Allen for an informal, fun evening featuring refreshments and dinner. It's an opportunity to meet old friends, make new contacts, celebrate and support Vermont's tech sector, and enjoy a late summer evening on Lake Champlain. Vermont Coders Connection will be holding "Vermont Code Camp 7," which brings together technology-minded teachers, students and community members for a day of technology talks. Topics include programming, databases, web design, and business.

Everett McKay, an expert on user experience (UX) design, will discuss why technology-focused product design no longer works in a world where customers want to love the products they buy and use. Apple is an example of a company that has demonstrated that having a great user experience captures both customer loyalty and profits. Using Steve Jobs and Apple as a case study, Everett will present the key UX design insights that are relevant to today's technology leaders and developers.

The vtTA and Seven Days organizes this two-day job fair and tech expo that brings together Vermont's leading tech companies. It's an opportunity for job seekers, career changers, students and others to talk with recruiters, attend presentations, and discover Vermont's innovative tech businesses. This year's event also coincides with a technical conference on "the edges of innovation in smarter cities," hosted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The vtTA will present the Vermont Tech Jam Awards, recognizing a Vermont technology innovation and ambassador.

Vermont's senior senator is hoping Vermont will lead the way in how companies protect themselves from cyberterrorism. U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy told a convention of 1,000 captive insurance industry executives that he is working to pass a law that would help large companies put money aside as insurance for cyber attacks. If passed, it would allow more companies to insure their risks through captive insurance companies in Vermont.

They sell computers rugged enough to operate in mine shafts. But there's nothing rough about the expanded headquarters of Logic Supply in South Burlington, which celebrated a sleek $4 million makeover that added 21,000 square feet to the building in South Burlington. Logic Supply is expanding: production rose by 36 percent in 2014 and the company says an employee headcount increased 30 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Seventeen-year-old Tom Lunday lives in San Francisco - the heart of the tech world - but he traveled all the way to Burlington this summer to learn about video game development. Tom was one of 78 high school students who participated in the Champlain Game Academy at Champlain College in July. The ambitious goal of the camp is to create a miniature version of the college's four-year game development program in just two weeks.

A Louisiana-based company will be the new provider for Vermont's care management system, which helps coordinate services for Vermonters who rely heavily on Medicaid. The Department of Vermont Health Access (DVHA) selected eQHealth Solutions to upgrade and maintain an IT platform that helps coordinate services for the five percent of people who use Medicaid services most intensively. AHS selected eQHealth to take over the operation of the system in partnership with a company called Cognizant.

Davis & Hodgdon Announces Merger

Rutland Accounting firm Siliski & Buzzell has merged with Williston-based CPA firm and vtTA member Davis and Hodgdon Associates in a deal that closed on July 1. Operating under the banner of Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs, the firms' newly expanded team will continue to operate from their existing locations in Rutland and Chittenden counties.
