A recent home run barrage by San Francisco Giants outfielder Jarrett Parker, culminating with his three home run performance on Saturday, in which he hit a grand slam and drove in seven runs, has heads turning. Above, Parker is shown hitting a mammoth home run (454-feet) off of Oakland A's pitcher Ryan Dull on Friday night. Oakland would win the game, 5-4. Photo by Michael Zagaris.

Seemingly heading for trouble, a Rolex Big Boat Series entry begins to tack. Inaugurated in 1964, the Series celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. Hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club and sailed on San Francisco Bay, Sep. 17-20, the Regatta drew top sailors and boats from across the nation and abroad for four days of extremely competitive one-design and handicap racing. Rolex became the title sponsor in 2005. To view a photo album, visit our Facebook page and be sure to LIKE us. Photo by Ed Jay. |

"Heck, what is there to quarterbacking? If a receiver's open, throw it to him. If he's not open, throw it to him anyway.
Let the guy show his athletic ability."

My name is Shea Ohlott and I am a chef for a law firm in Palo Alto but on Sundays I go by Skulls! I grew up a lifelong Raider fan and the first year I could afford season tickets, I bought them. I don't view myself as a super fan, nor do I think I'm a better fan. I just portray it differently. But I'm not going to lie, the smiles I bring to kids' faces are priceless!
In 2001, while attending culinary school in San Francisco, I bought some shoulder pads from a local high school and immediately took a bus to Haight Street to find some spikes. I went back to my dorm room and the project began. The following year I added the skulls. Every year I added a new element and in 2012 I finally got the shoulder pads made as I always envisioned.
It takes me around 20 minutes to get ready for game day. This hasn't always been the case but I'd like to think I've gotten faster and better throughout the years.
In 2012 I married the love of my life, who is also a Raiders fan and we were introduced as husband and wife to AC/DC's Hells Bells.
In 2014 I was honored by being inducted into the Professional Football's Ultimate Fan Association in Canton, OH, where I met some of the greatest fans around the league and built lifelong friendships. On game day you can find me tailgating with the Bad Boyz of BBQ! (Special thanks to Erica Ortiz.)

I Dreamt Duffy Hit a Triple
by Alta
|
"Matt Duffy...recorded a speed of 20.3 mph when he raced
from second to home."
-- Wikipedia
So he hit a triple, and raced to third.
Exuberant, unwilling to stay still, he raced
along the field & up the wall --
sideways, parallel to the field, jubilant
whizzing along, faster, so fast, turning, racing back
then noticing, there's a woman! Right there,
at the edge of the wall. She too is parallel to the ground
He slows, approaches her; the ballgame is on hold;
she pays no attention to the game or to him. He
steps closer; picks up some sand & tosses it
toward her. She's unperturbed, casually turns to observe
this athlete tossing sand at her like a little boy in a sandbox
He's perplexed; pauses, watching,
watching her like she's watching him. How long
will they resist gravity & stand sideways on the wall?
The Giant who ran 20 miles an hour
stands transfixed, curious, and the game can wait

How many games will the San Francisco 49ers win this year? Why?
|
|
Six games, because they have a tough schedule and because of all the retirements and defections.
Chris Dobbins, attorney, Oakland

How many games will the Oakland Raiders win this year? Why?
|
|
Without a solid O line, it won't matter. Defense is what wins games. That being said, I think the Raiders will have a respectable season, finishing 9-7.
Marcus Mitchell, account executive, Oakland
|
|
|
Derek Carr and Amari Cooper will be key to the future success of the Raiders and will likely lead them to successful seasons. Seven wins seems like a safe bet this year.
Daniel Geary, philanthropy, Richmond
