Summer Reading Program Kickoff
at Elachee Nature Center
Elachee Nature Science Center will kickoff the summer with its annual Summer Reading Program on Sunday, June 14 from 2 - 4 p.m. Activities will include face painting, arts and crafts, entertainment and other fun-filled activities. To learn more about the program, please click  here for details.

Summer Programs at Fair Street & GMS

Beginning on June 1, students will attend summer programs at Fair Street IB World School and Gainesville Middle School.  Fair Street will offer several programs at its campus which will include GCSS Elementary Summer Program, GCSS Migrant School, Brenau Rise, and Boys & Girls Club Summer Program.  Gainesville Middle School will offer summer academic programs at its campus.

   Book Trunk on the Road to Read

 

This summer the "Book Trunk" will be ready to hit the road traveling to various locations around Gainesville to place books in the hands of our students.  The Book Trunk will be making stops from 10 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the months of June and July.  Many volunteers will donate their time during the summer traveling to designated areas within our communities to assist children in selecting books for their enjoyment.  Special thanks to Leanne Pittman as the Book Trunk coordinator and to the many volunteers for their tremendous support.  Please click here to view the Book Trunk summer schedule.

 

Reading with The Cat in the Hat


Students in Ms. Kim Ingleheart's First Grade class received a visit from a special guest.  Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat dropped by the classroom to promote the importance of summer reading.  Students were eager to meet and share stories with their new friend and are looking forward to reading their books this summer.

 

 
 
Effective June 1 through July 24, summer o ffice hours for Gainesville City School System will be from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. from Mondays through Thursdays. The district office and all schools will be closed on Fridays with the exception of Fair Street which will remain open due to summer programs.

Special guests recognized at the Gainesville City Board of Education Called Board Meeting held on Wednesday, May 27, were Governor's Honors State Level Nominees Pratyusha Karnati, Ana Oropeza, Maxwell Sumner, Pramoda Karnati and Julia Truelove, State and Region Pole Vault Champion Hunter Mallard,  Boys Track State Qualifier in 1600M/3200M Juan Ortega and the GHS Girls Varsity Basketball team and coaching staff.
